In the 1980s school uniforms continued but many became less formal with some schools dropping the wearing of blazers in favour of sweaters and some moving over to sweatshirts. Some even wore jogging suits.

Casual Clothes

Most boys were now allowed by their parents to wear jeans. This was because many parents had worn jeans themselves in the 60s.Worn-looking jeans become popular, even tears and holes become desirable.

Jogging trousers and sweatshirts  appeared in the 1980s and proved a big hit with boys. Many American styles such as T-shirts, sweatshirts, and baseball caps made their debut in the 1980s and proved very popular. Small boys wore sports style shorts and T shirts in the Summer.

All kinds of fashions developed from sportswear and trainers became popular and were even allowed in some schools. School sandals are still worn to school, but now mostly by little boys. They are rarely worn now by boys after school. Velcro school shoes began to appear.

Relatively long, uncurled hair was very common for boys through the mid-1980s.

Pop Culture

Punks were still around at the beginning of the 80s but Pop Stars toned down this threatening look  and shocked with bright clothes and make up

A new seriousness also came in with the Yuppie culture and some bands wore smart suits again.

In the middle of the 80s break dancing started and the popularity of sportswear took off . Labels became crucial Adidas, Nike and Reebok trainers were the ones to have.
