i-claudius and the world of Rome. A source for history lovers.

It is a celebration in words and images, many of which are original, with some contributions by friends both ancient and contemporary.

This is my personal tribute, in words and graphics, to my favorite time in history. A time of glory and barbarism, of great pride and great shame and, finally, of incredible victory and ignominious defeat.

Check out what's new from time to time as I update all of the portions of my site.

Emperors of Rome

This is an ongoing biography of all of the Emperors of the western world. It should take me about as long as the reign of Augustus to finish it, buy who's counting?

Tempus Magazine

And what about a Magazine of ancient Rome?

Rome didn't have the sophisticated tree-killing methods available to make a monthly magazine. Most of the important notices were hung up in the rostra, along with the heads of Sulla's enemies. But if they had a periodical, it might have been something like this.

The Gallery

Working with Bryce 2 and CorelDream, I've set up a gallery of original images. Some Roman, some distinctly modern.

Biblioteca

I love books, and nothing is better than sharing a good book with a friend. I've teamed up with Amazon books to offer a library of books on and about ancient Rome.

Cartoon Scrapbook

Here are some cartoons I've drawn. You're welcome to use them if you ask my permission. I've got many more to put up over the coming months.

Domus

This is the entrance to the main part of I_Claudius' Domus. Using Shockwave Flash, I'm working on an interactive tour of a roman house. Clicking on the domus link will take you to the first page. If you don't have the flash plug in, any 4x browser will ask you if you want to load it (less than a minute on a 28k modem).

ESL

Teaching English as a Second Language is  what I do for a living and what provides me with the monetary resources to spend time on the net. If you don't speak English then you can't understand this so you won't know it'll be of interest to you. Maybe someone who reads English will let you know it's here. I hope.

VRML

Enjoy a tour of a virtual "Dada House" featuring some non-Roman pictures I've created.

I'm working on a representation of a typical Roman building which I hope to have ready soon.

Ancient Rome Greeting Cards

These are special greeting cards with a Roman touch. Send them to ancient friends on Lupercalia.

The Ancient Rome Museum

The museum has scanned and, in many cases, transparent images from ancient Rome. I've got an extensive library of books on Rome and my goal is to get as many of these images on the net as a source for students of Roman history.
