There is will in this soft-spoken woman, a will and a determination, lying just below her conventional surface. Margaret is recently widowed by the death of her husband Captain William Scully, and her family is everything to her. Combining a motherly concern with a practical domesticity, she is a woman whose life has been spent as a homemaker and mother, but however, Margaret may have a bit of psychic intuition. When her daughter Dana was kidnapped in "Duane Barry", she confessed to Mulder that she had a premonition about Dana, but was afraid to tell her sceptical daughter. In "One Breath", when Mulder discovers his partner is lying comatose in the hospital, she sits at the center of a storm, ignoring his rage and the violence of the scene he creates and focuses entirely on her daughter to the exclusion of all else.
