The late 80�S saw a boom in he computer industry across the globe and the Indian talent was soon recognized ,leading to a growing demand for Indian software professionals .With the view to cater to this ever-increasing need for computer professionals ,the YMCA Institute Of Engineering introduced the branch of Computer Engineering in the year 1991,since then the institute has been producing quality software professionals.

These students are very well placed in the various software industries such as :HCL,Infosys,SSI,TCS,HFCL,WIPRO,CMC,DCM Tech.,Nucleus Software,New Gen Software etc. The list of course is exhaustive .In the year 2001 ,Information Technology was added to the department. The institute also became Microsoft Certified Partner and IBM Competency Center in the same year.

In tune with the long-standing tradition of YMCA IE, the Department of Computer Engineering has primary objective of producing quality engineers .To achieve the same, strong emphasis is laid on the fundamentals of computer science and the students undergo rigorous practical training in the advanced computer center, which is one of the best equipped centers.

Experts from various industries and faculty from premier institutes have designed the curriculum keeping in mind the requirements of the present Software Industry.

The department had introduced the bachelor level course in Information Technology to keep up the pace with new technical advances in the field of I.T. in the year 2001.Post Graduate courses of M.Tech and M.C.A were started by the institute in this department,from 2002.
