On 8 May 1945, the Allies accepted Germany’s surrender, about a week after Adolf Hitler had committed suicide. 8 May 1945 - Winston Churchill announced VE Day - Victory in Europe. V-J Day - Victory in Japan Day. The surrender was signed on 2 Sept. 1945 aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay.

Russia was fighting so called Great Patriotic War. As Stalin was helping Hitler from 1939 to 1941to fight UK, the Russian Great Patriotic War started in 1941 (not in 1939) and ended in 1945.
