(`'.(`'.(`'.(`'. Text Chat .').').').')
Even if you don't have a blue nickname you can text chat to anywhere in the world for free.
Text Formatting
The first line of text you enter into a group will always be small and unbolded. Not to worry, it's a PalTalk bug. The second line should go through with your text formatting and all the lines after that. To prevent spamming in PalTalk groups your text messsage will not go through if it contains line feed characters or excess spaces. Underline text is reserved for clickable links and admin only. Typing in capital letters indicates that you are shouting so don't use capitals for your regular speech. Turn off your Caps Lock. Typing in all capitalized letters and using underlines shouts to the visually impaired who use text readers so refrain from using either one.
No Neon
Never use neon colours such as shocking pink, yellow and red for your text because it can trigger migraines and seizures and it's hard on everyone's eyes. Most rooms on PalTalk do not allow neon text because users hate to read those blinding colours after a long while at the computer. Change your text to a non-neon color, like black or navy, by clicking the red A (just under the chat area) and then click on a colour in the Color Palette.
Hopefully future updates of PalTalk will not have any neon colours.
You can turn all the text in any group black, regardless of how the individual users have set their text formatting, and avoid ever seeing that nasty neon text again.
To turn any group's text to black only go up to the "Switches" menu (top of the group) > Click on "Show Incoming Text With Formatting" once to UNCHECK it.
Make sure you do this if you suffer from migraines, severe headaches, light sensitivity and epileptic seizures. Now that the text is all black you will see it's all tiny and unbolded. Unfortunately this is how all the other users will view your text. Follow the directions below to increase the size of the text you see.
Increase All Text
If your mouse has one of those roller balls on the top that helps you scroll you can make ALL the text in the chat area or PMs really big.
To increase all the text click in the chat area or a PM where the messages are entered to (not where you type the message) > hold the "Ctrl" key down and at the same time roll your scroll wheel up.
Try to enlarge the text really fast or increase it only when someone is speaking on the mic because pressing the "Ctrl" key may activate your mic in a group. Others in the group will read your text the same size as you have to set to.
Abbreviations
The most commonly used chat abbreviations on PalTalk include entering and leaving a group, saying you are away from the computer, laughing and welcoming others to the room. There's hundreds of them so don't expect to know them all. Just learn the basics and tack on whichever ones are particular to the regulars in the groups you frequent.
Get the meaning of some of the chat abbreviations you'll find in PalTalk Groups here:
SoftwareEmoticons
Type PalTalk emoticons in text and they will be turned into graphical representations of your mood or response automatically in your messages. Copy and paste these icons and emoticons into PalTalk Groups and PMs. Use these icons freely and express yourself with style. Every occasion covered!
PalTalk Icons & Emoticons
Emoticons stop working when the chat gets too long (too much text in the window) and when you run out of program memory. Simply restart PalTalk to get them back. Supposedly you will create less lag in a group if you use dance moves with a minimum of 5 characters but I haven't found this to be the case.
Whispers
PalTalk users supposedly can whisper a message to a single user in the public chat area without anyone else being able to read it. Personally I don't think whispers work, and I highly recommend you use PMs instead, but here is a way that might do it. Be careful what you whisper as the entire group might be able to see it.
To send a whisper type /w: username message in the chat area.
For example: /w: Alberta226 Hi there!
V7.0 Successfully send whispers by right-clicking on a nickname > click on "Whisper" > type your message > Send.
"Paltalk: Whisper sent." will appear when your message was sent.
When you see a whisper it will look something like this:
***** Start Whisper
I hope this goes through!
***** End Whisper

Users post web addresses on PalTalk but not all of them are safe to visit. For your own safety do NOT click on any URLs that offer to give you invisibilty on PalTalk, a greeter bot, free blue nicknames, PalTalk Ads Blocker and the like. These sites might record your account info, credit card information, IP address or they could install malicious files to your computer. The URLs in the banner, and often the links posted by the moderators, contain room information. These links are usually safe. Visit any link posted on PalTalk at your own risk!!
Post URLs
Before you post a URL in a group be sure to get permission from the admin first. When you post a link in a group users might see the following Disclaimer Page when they visit the link:

Adding Your Pals To Your Pal List
PalTalk also works with AOL and Yahoo so you can contact all your pals in one place.
Remove Pals
To take users off your PalList right-click on their nickname > Remove > click "Yes" if you are sure you want to remove them.
Private Messages
PalTalk has instant text messaging. Do not PM anyone in the room without asking permission first in the public chat area. Never give out unsolicited A/S/L requests. Please consider a non-response a NO. Most users only PM people they are familiar with so if they don't know you talk to them in the group first.
You do not have to leave a group to text chat in private.
To private message someone select a name from your PalList or in a group > right-click and select "Private Chat" > type your message in the bottom text box > press Enter to send.
You may have multiple PM windows open at once. You can PM an offline user as well (they can pick it up when they are online). Users in "Do Not Disturb" status (DND Mode) will not be able to recieve PMs.
Private Chat Window FunctionsStop Unwanted PMs
When PalTalk freezes it might be because you are getting a PM from a user not on your list and it's waiting for you to choose what you want to do with it. Unsolicited PMs block the chat screen and it's impossible to voice chat when you get 2 or 3 PMs at once. Moderators can't stop PMs but if you get offensive PMs from someone in a room let an admin know and they'll be removed from the group.
You have to put your blocks up to restrict people from contacting you unless they are on your PalList
To stop unsolicited PMs go to the Main PalTalk Window (your PalList) > setup > Privacy > Check "Allow Contact from PalList Only" > OK.
Block Users
To stop a user from private messaging you right-click on their nickname and choose "Add Pal" > right-click on their name again and select "Block Pal" > in your PalList find their name > right-click and "Remove".
Unblock Users
To unblock someone go to your PalList and click "setup" > click the "Privacy" tab > under "Block List Management" scroll down until you find their nickname > highlight it and click the "Remove" button.
