How To Configure ZoneAlarm For WinMX:
First remove WinMX from ZoneAlarm: Double-click the ZoneAlarm icon (in the system tray) > program tab > Find WinMX Application in programs and
right-click. A drop down menu will come up > Select remove WinMX Application.
Reboot computer > open WinMX. ZoneAlarm will ask permission for WinMX as server, local net and internet > check yes to all.
To Find Out Your Connection Speed:
To find out if your are on DSL or Cable change your settings. WinMX will find out for you automatically.
Refresh Your Shared Files Number:
Go to "Networks" page > choose "Name Change" > DON'T change your name, just press OK. It'll refresh the number of shared files.
To Browse And Download:
Enter a chatroom > Right-click on any name (in the list on the right) > choose "Browse" from the dropdown menu > let the entire list load > double-click on any files you'd like to download.
Let users in a chatroom know you want them to give you priority if you are trying to get files off of them.

How To Make A Permanent Hotlist:
On WinMX the Hotlist is temporary. So if you were exchanging with a user or they had files you want, and you lose them, it's annoying.
This is the remedy: Create a text file > rename it to "[USER] YOURNICK.txt" > Copy that file twice and rename it "[USER] YOURNICK.avi" and "[USER] YOURNICK.mp3"
Now it's easy to find your friends with WinMX's search engine. Search all the users online by typing "USER".
WARNING: Before Entering A Chat Room:
Some rooms make your IP address and Port visible to everyone in the chat area when you go in. It's supposed to be a precaution. In case a hacker jumps in the room the administration have their IP addy to report them or handle them appropriately. However the same precaution is very dangerous and can leave you vulnerable to getting hacked. If you are on dial-up your IP should change everytime you logon otherwise your direct PC address will stay the same. People could use this address to hack you and then they can do things to your computer.

Are MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger the same program?
Depends on who you ask. Some people say they are. Windows XP comes with Windows Messenger. Windows does not come with MSN Messenger. This could explain why these two Microsoft programs, with the same features, are available to download seperately. I believe Windows Messenger is a Windows component.
Disable Adult Pop-Ups In MSN Mesenger (Windows Messenger) For Windows XP Users:
Description: Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depends on it will fail to start.
Method: Right-click the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop > left-click 'Manage'. A Computer Management box will open with System Tools, Storage & Services and Applications > double left-click on 'Services and Applications'. Now you see Services, WMI Control and Indexing Service > double-click on 'Services' > then you should see a bunch of yellow gears/cogs icons. Scroll down the right-hand pane until you see 'Messenger' and double click on it > Messenger Properties box will open. In the 'General Tab' next to 'Startup type' click the drop down menu > there are 3 choices, choose 'Disabled' > Apply > OK. Then restart windows in normal mode.
I can't see the emoticons anymore. How can I get them back?
Emoticons stop working when the chat gets too long (too much text in the window) and when you run out of program memory. This goes for PalTalk, AIM, MSN and Yahoo. Simply restart the program to get them back.
