These photos (© Jerry Yingst) show the playfield layout much more clearly than in Joe Cicak's photo. It's obvious from this angle that there was no return lane parallel to the shooter lane. In the picture on the right, the ramp leading up from the lower playfield to the lower left flipper can be clearly seen. Note the Atari pop-bumper caps!

Now you may or not believe this story, but either way, it doesn't end here! You may recall that Jed Yingst mentioned the second game that they had proposed to Gottlieb, which had been rejected: a game called "Critical Mass". Well, you'd better read on!
