Netherlands -

The Netherlands was originally part of the Roman Empire. The lands were passed to Philip II who succeeded to Spain and the Netherlands, 1555. The seven northern provinces united against Spain in 1579. The country was overrun by the French, 1795 to 1813. It united with Belgium as the Kingdom of the United Netherlands until 1830 when Belgium withdrew. The country was occupied by Germany in World War II

The Netherlands Philatelists of California was founded in 1969, and has held regular monthly meetings for more than 25 consecutive years . We meet, on a rotating basis, every third Saturday of the month at a member's home to socialize and discuss all aspects of the Philately of the Netherlands and related areas. In addition, we have been publishing a monthly Newsletter (12 issues per year), containing the minutes of the meeting as well as articles about Dutch Philately that the reader will find of general interest and as an aid for their collecting interest.

The Stamps of Ross Dependency

Antarctica's land mass is nearly as great as that of Europe and the USA combined

Today several countries have jurisdiction over sections of Antarctica. New Zealand's Ross Dependency is among these. The Ross Dependency stretches from 160 degrees east to 15 degrees west of the Greenwich meridian. Its biggest geographical feature is the massive Ross Ice Shelf. Habitations include Scott Base (NZ) and McMurdo Sound (USA)

The first stamps produced specifically for use in the Antarctic were issued by the New Zealand Post Office on January 15th, 1908 when the then current 1d Universal stamp of New Zealand was issued with a special overprint reading "King Edward V11 Land". This stamp was used on mail for the first time by members of the Shackleton Antarctic Expedition. Since then, there have been many stamps issued specifically for use in the Antarctic. Ross Dependency stamps were first issued in 1957, such stamps were, however, discontinued in 1987 when the New Zealand Post Office on the ice was closed

Due to both local and international demand Ross Dependency stamps were re-introduced in November 1994

Sultanate of Okusi-Ambeno - nice map

Okusi-Ambeno is a small enclave located on the island of Timor, and facing out into the Savu Sea (Laut Sawa). The highest point is Mt Aaf (1098 metres). The country is mainly equatorial forest with scattered cultivated land. There are some undeveloped deposits of manganese and copper.
