LOCOST PAGE

Hi, since November 2002, you are visitor number

to this page, thanks for stopping by !

As you can see, this page is still being worked up into a full blown page, come back soon to check on our progress.

Along with my brother Kevin, we are building a couple of Locost’s.  So far we have one chassis tacked together, a full set of wishbones, radius arms panhard rod and all the bushes and a complete 1300cc Escort estate for a doner.

We have built a jig for the chassis (leveled by laser no less). Pictures of this and the first chassis will be added soon.

The running gear for the second chassis is as yet undecided, it may be my old, highly modified Chrysler Avenger 1600cc engine (twin Dellorto's, big valves, dual pattern cam etc 120bhp at wheels, should go well in a car approx half the original estate weight) and BW45 autobox with matching rear axle. This has the same PCD as the Cortina front uprights so any of the alloy wheel sets I have will fit.

On the other hand, all this talk of bike engines has got me thinking of the reduced road tax for 1100cc engines. Thoughts are turning to a small Ford crossflow (maybe Fiesta 957cc) and Bullet gearbox with a Shorrock supercharger, if I can make it give about 90bhp it should be quick enough. Shorrock superchargers are difficult to find as they have been out of production for some years, however, I got mine from British Sports cars at http://www.bcsc.co.uk/. If I convert to LPG as well, I can be green and cheap ! Should be easier to justify to the wife this way.

LATEST UPDATE AS OF  27th FEBRUARY 2002

You have probably noticed the link on the sidebar to the Glory Days nostalgic Dragster website.  Well, my brother and I have this mad idea.  We are going to put together all the bits we have lying around (1700cc full race crossflow etc) and finish this off as a track day car, or, more accurately, a strip car for "run what ya brung days".  The intention is to have some fun and try and beat (initially) my mate Malcolm's dragster and then to keep up with it to keep him honest.  We will be adding a shot of nitrous to keep things equal, but, in the Locost tradition, it will be a homemade system.  No better system exists (for the DIY) than this one at John Williams site .  I have contacted him and we can run Nitrous along with our LPG system, in fact, it will work real good as the LPG has a higher octane value than regular petrol so we should see an additional increase, cant wait.
