You Are Not Alone - Review

You Are Not Alone is sexy, sultry and revealing.

You Are Not Alone by Angel Hunter

I enjoyed the book. It was an easy read and fast paced. The editing sucked. As for the characters they need to be more developed in her sequel. As for the ending the author could have given more details about what happened to each character. But over all I liked the book and I would definitely recommend the book to other people.

You Are Not Alone, a book about friendship and partnership, along with love and lust. The love and lust for the forbidden.

You Are Not Alone was a very easy read. Even though the author left some things up in the air, as her first novel it was pretty good.

You Are Not Alone is about 4 women, Crystal, Susan, Elsie and Jewel, who became sister-friends.

Crystal, Susan and Elsie were partners in a small law firm. Jewel was the legal secretary also attending school to become a paralegal. Crystal also a rape victim and counselor battles with her memory when she counsels a young girl raped by the son of the man who raped her as a young girl. Crystal also battles with her lust for Lange, another attorney in the building where she works. She battles with whether she should tell Lange the secret about his wife and also whether she should leave her high school sweetheart who comes back into her life because of what she feels for Lange.

Susan - battles with giving up being a drug addict when her best friend who happens to be her true love proposes marriage on the condition of her giving up her addiction. This isn't easy for her because she refuses to believe she's an addict.

Elsie - who never shares anything personal with her partners decides at one of the company parties to come out of the closet. She is then faced with her first love trying to come back into her life and her now lover wanting her to move in even though her estranged daughter is now living with her.

And then there is Jewel. Jewel has a young child and she is faced with being in an interracial relationship, something she has never done or thought she would ever do. She is also still in love with her son's father King who is pro-black.

You Are Not Alone was a very, quick and easy read. It touches on a lot of issues that people, whether male or female or black or white are faced with today.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Hunter before I cracked the spine of her new novel. First, Ms Hunter it was a pleasure to meet you.... Ms Hunter did a great job with the characters' positions in the corporate environment.

The interracial relationship between Jewell and Evan was a bit far-fetched and unrealistic for my tastes. I am not saying that it could not happen this way, but I doubt if a white man would be that understanding.

The relationship between Jewell and King could have been a novel amongst itself. I believe that Ms. Hunter could have left out the interracial relationship and developed the story line better between Jewell and King.

The lesbian relationship was not as descriptive as it could've been. I was not looking for a deep sexual connotation, but I don't think Ms Hunter scratched the surface with this type of relationship. Can we say homophobic?

The drug usage with Susan was thrown in the mix as an after thought, so it appeared. Susan had other issues that should have been dealt with along with the drugs. Ms. Hunter did not use the drug subject to it's fullest potential.

Lastly, but definitely not least is Crystal. She was a rape counselor who was trying to deal with her own rape as a teenager. I think Ms. Hunter stretched reality with the story line of Crystal mother. On top of all this nonsense, Crystal ends up meeting a young woman who was raped by the son of the man who raped her. Now tell me, how far fetched is that!

Ms. Hunter could have developed her characters better. She left me hanging on a few issues.

On a lighter noteI commend Ms. Hunter for her attempt to tackle such controversial issues in today's society.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE by Angel Hunter brings a tale of four friends with love, loyalty, and compassion for each other.

Crystal - A successful attorney who was a rape survivor trying to deal with her past was very supportive of the girl who was a raped by son of her rapist. Crystal had a love affair with Lange and had mixed feelings for her boyfriend Roger. There should have been more details about how her relationship with Lange turned out.

Susan - One of the partners at the law firm was battling a drug addiction and was confused about marrying Timothy, because of drug addiction. Susan hit the rock bottom when she was caught driving drunk with drugs in her purse. The experience forced her to seek help. Susans character left the reader wondering if she ever got over her drug addiction. Ms. Hunter should have elaborated more on Susan recovery from her drug problem.

Elise - Third partner of the law firm who kept her sexuality a secret. Elise was torn between two lovers; she couldnt make her mind whether to move in with her lover Summer who has a daughter or to continued seeing Janay. Elise character needed to develop more.

Jewel - A paralegal at the firm with the other three ladies who was struggling to raise her son and get an education at the same time. Jewel got involved in an interracial relationship and had an affair with her sons father who was pro-black. The interracial relationship between Jewel and Evan was irrelevant to the rest of her life story.

Overall the book was a well-told and passionate story. Angel Hunter has the potential to be a good writer.
