The Kappa Alpha Chapter began on October 23rd, 1998
as an organization known as 'The Women of Wilson'
(being named afted Rowan's music building).

A petition requesting membership to Sigma Alpha Iota
was assembled and mailed out on March 15th, 1999 approximately two weeks before the post-petition visit by Alice Berman, a local SAI alumnae on March 30th, 1999.

The pledge ceremony for the chapter was held on
April 11th and the four week pledge period began the
next day. Mary Bushong graciously gave of her time to
train the Women of Wilson  during the Member-in-Training period for their National exam which was held on May 9th.

The Kappa Alpha chapter was installed on June 1st,
1999 consisting of fourteen collegiate members and one National Arts Associate (Sean Heim, the first advisor
of the chapter).

Today, the Kappa Alpha chapter has 26 active members and 5 MIT's and continues to grow musically, academically,
and as a chapter.
