Original Series Next Generation Deep Space 9 Voyager Enterprise

Star Trek was the brainchild of creator Gene Roddenberry. The Original Series Roddenberry created debuted in 1965. Despite the series being cancelled after just three seasons by NBC, the show retained it's popularity over the years and spawned several feature films starring the original cast. The original series also influenced a great fan following and decades of conventions, animated series, tons of books and games featuring the further adventures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the Enterprise crew. The series also introduced viewers to many alien races including Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans and Andorians.

In the late 1980s, influenced by the success of the Star Trek feature films, Paramount introduced Trek fans to The Next Generation of the Enterprise crew. The adventures of the new starship Enterprise-D was a huge success on the fledgling Fox network. For seven seasons and three films Captain Picard and his crew explored the Star Trek galaxy and encountered alien races like the Borg, Ferengi, Cardassians and the Q Continuum. This new series reestablished Star Trek as a television series franchise which would continue for over a decade and counting.

In the early 1990s while The Next Generation was still on the air another spin-off, this time based on adventures on the space station Deep Space Nine began. While all of the other Trek series have focused on exploring the galaxy, this new show was mostly centered around a stationary point in space. This series focused on a much larger cast than any other Trek series, sometimes juggling storylines involving two dozen characters. It's main focus was dealing with war and the effects of war on the Federation as well as on the Bajoran, Cardassian, Klingon and Dominion races. Captain Sisko must also deal with his role in Bajoran religion which foresaw his coming as the Emissary. Deep Space Nine also ran for seven seasons and though there are no current plans for a feature film, it has inspired a number of books and video games over the years.

Voyager was the fourth Trek series and it dealt with a starship marooned on the far side of the galaxy. For the next seven seasons, Captain Janeway and her crew strived to find their way home and struggled against alien races like the Borg, Vidiians, Hirogen and the Kazon. Like The Next Generation before it, Voyager became the flagship series on a brand new TV network, this time UPN. The Voyager series' basic premise was the integration a crew of Starfleet and Maquis renegades into a close knit family. The crew must overcome their differences and animosities and learn to work together as well as incorporating new alien beings into the crew as well as as a holographic character and a Borg crewmember.

The most recent Trek series, Enterprise debuted on UPN in the fall of 2001. Set a century before the adventures of Capt. Kirk, Enterprise is a prequel to all other Trek series and it illustrates mankind's first steps in exploring the Trek galaxy. Captain Archer's Enterprise is propelled by early warp engines and utilizes experimental versions of photon torpedoes, transporters and other established Trek technologies. The crew of the Enterprise must deal with the crafty Suliban race and a temporal cold war. The series also shows humans first encounters with races like the Klingons, Ferengi and Andorians as well as their then strenuous relationship with the Vulcans.
