The Sarnia Wrestling Alliance is a non-profit organization. We are simply a group a friends who get together every now and then between March and December and wrestle in a backyard.
By backyard wrestling we don't mean your stereotypical backyard wrestling where you see guys killing each other, using thumbtacks, fire, and all that crap. No, we actually wrestle. We actually have characters and story lines and we actually perform wrestling moves with extreme caution and care. We respect and care for each other and try our best not to seriously injury anyone. So far, we've been lucky to have minimal injuries.
We build our own right using many different materials. The mat is composed of mattresses, ply wood, carpet underlying, then a tarp. It is surprisingly comfortable to bump on.
We video tape all our events, although some have been lost. We actually have music, different types of characters and story lines for each.
Our style is similar to that of World Wrestling Entertainment, though we don't use their characters as our own, we create our own characters.
This is something that keeps us unique from other backyard wrestling federations. We are unique in every aspect of what we do. We here at the SWA take great pride in what we do and we take it very seriously. It is something that has been going on in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, for almost a decade.
Up until 2001 the SWA was called East Sarnia Wrestling (ESW) for the simple reason that it took place in the East End of Sarnia. In 2001, we started fresh with a new name and some new faces.
