There have been forty million abortions performed in the last three decades.  Every hour in the United States, one hundred and twenty five more are performed. If we are to survive as a species, we have to admit our faults, and our sins, if only to ourselves.  Aborting an unwanted pregnancy is akin to killing your partner instead of getting a divorce.  Deep down inside women know it is wrong, but society has made this option seem less than what it is.  Women of all races and religions sit around chatting about the need for abortion, and the right to choose, without ever taking the time to research the basis for their convictions.  I am not condemning them, I was one of them.  I believed it was a woman’s right to choose, until I found out for myself what an abortion truly is.  After learning the unbelievable truth, I could never again advocate abortion.  We as women have no right to end the life of an unborn child, our right to choose should be exercised before we lie down with a man and conceive.

There are a multitude of myths and misinformation out there, and sometimes it is hard to find the facts.  To be perfectly honest with you, I didn’t believe what the pro-life campaign was promoting in the media.  I didn’t believe anyone who vowed to save lives, “doctors”, could do such things, like pull the limbs off, and crush the head of an unborn fetus, then extract the various parts and reconstruct the piteous thing on a dissection tray!  That had to be a lie!  It is inhuman!  I did however do a little investigation for myself; I had to know the truth, although I firmly believed the stories were untrue.

To my utter disbelief, I came across a piece of video footage showing the procedure used when performing a partial birth abortion.  There it was right in front of my eyes, a “doctor” proceeded to enter the womb with an instrument designed to tear and pull the tiny little beings arms and legs off!  And he did!  And the little fetus squirmed and shook in pain, he explained in cold detail the reason for this action, it was done so that the mother would not have to be dilated or put into labor, as she would if the fetus was to be pulled from the womb whole.  It didn’t end there, and I was already in tears, it was horrible.  Carefully and skillfully he inserted an instrument large enough to grab and crush the struggling fetus’s head!  And this he did, and extracted the various pieces without a single expression of revulsion!  It had to be done this way he explained, because the child can not be allowed to take a breath, or it could be considered a live birth, and everyone knows you can’t crush the head of a new born infant. 

I am not one to just jump on the media train, and agree with everything everybody says is fact, this was an actual video, of a real procedure, created to introduce the new procedure to the medical community.  This made me take a second look at facts I knew to be true.  And the facts don’t lie.  Tiny infants, born as early as 4-5 months can survive through the marvels of modern medical advances….and if this is fact, then the old understanding of a fetus is not a human being until it is born is ignorant.  I could no longer agree with pro-choice.

Before the introduction of this “modern” form of partial birth abortion, the mother had to be induced, the fetus would be born, and then the attending physician or nurse would carry the squirming fetus to a vat of acid, and plop it in.  Many doctors and nurses were refusing to perform these abortions…they could not handle hearing the infants cry, or seeing them move before dumping them in the poison.  A cry went out from the medical community to find a better way of doing away with these unwanted tykes.  That is when the partial birth procedure was introduced, and this satisfied many.  Although I can not imagine how it could!  They knew some fetus’s could survive early birth, they knew and accepted the truth that these fetuses must be destroyed before they took their first breath!  It makes me sick, to think of all the women who subjected themselves to this barbaric procedure under the misrepresentation of facts. 

The pro-life movement was never taken seriously by most modern women because of the radical displays of outrage.  When a group fights for a cause using the media and shock tactics, it makes them appear radical, and extreme, and their points and facts are overlooked.  More people with rational, patient views need to stand up for what is right.  It is no longer an issue that can be swept under the rug.
