UEMURA-San The school's groundskeeper. As his title suggests, he takes care of the school grounds, from changing lightbulbs to taking care of the vegetable patch and the carp pond. He also handles every day's school lunch. He's a really nice guy, and I always enjoy talking with him.
The Teachers of Minato
Here are the teachers & staff of Minato JHS (July 2001)...
FUJIWARA-Kouchou The head-honcho, Mr. Fujiwara is the kouchou-sensei (principal or headmaster) of the school. I've found him to be quite relaxed and easy-going.
KANEHIRA-Kyoutou The second-in-command, Mr. Kanehira is the kyoutou-sensei (vice-principal, or deputy-headmaster; literally "head teacher") of the school. He was just transferred to Minato this April. He's been very friendly and cheerful.
SHIMOODA-Sensei The school's office staff (secretary), Ms. Shimooda handles the school's paperwork, and makes sure everything's running smoothly. She also just arrived at Minato in April, and has been extremely friendly and helpful!

HIRATA-Sensei Mr. Hirata is one of the English teachers with whom you'll team teach; he teaches all of the san-nensei (third year) students, as well as half of the ichi-nensei (first year) and half of the ni-nensei (second year). He is also the homeroom teacher for the san-nensei, and coaches the girls' volleyball team. Cool guy who's easy to get along with.
TOMIMORI-Sensei Mr. Tomimori is the physical education teacher, and he also teaches art. He is one of the three teachers in charge of the san-nensei. In addition, he coaches the boys' baseball team. He likes beef jerky and playing pachinko. Funny guy.
MORIGAKI-Sensei Ms. Morigaki is the school nurse, who handles daily scrapes & bruises, fevers, stomachaches, etc. She also is one of the three teachers overseeing the goings-on of the san-nensei. She's also the person you pay for school lunches (avg. 4,000 yen per month). She's really nice, and sits at the desk right next to the ALT's.

MATSUDA-Sensei The school's math teacher, Mr. Matsuda is assigned to help oversee the ni-nensei. He is also the assistant baseball coach. He is a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, as well as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles. When he's not teaching class, he can often be found strumming his guitar in the lounge. Really really nice guy.

YAMATO-Sensei The youngest teacher, Ms. Yamato also teaches English. She teaches half of both the ichi-nensei and the ni-nensei (first & second years). She coaches the girls' tennis team, so she too is very busy. She enjoys singing, especially gospel music. A very bright, nice person!
FUKUDA-Sensei Mr. Fukuda's title is teacher of "kokoro no kyoushitsu" (literally, the "classroom of the heart / mind"). I suppose this means that he's a sort of counselor, but in these three years I honestly haven't figured out what exactly he does. He seems to be an auxiliary teacher, to help out just in case. At any rate, he too helps oversee the ni-nensei. He's a funny guy; it's like having an old uncle around...
