Jacobs Family

1.Willim Dittmar Jacobs (believed to be born in Holland). Married and had about 5 children. Andrew, Adam, Godfrey, Anna Katherin, Anna Katherine, & *John . The children are believed to be born in Germany, but may have been born in Holland. The oldest child, Andrew, believed to have come to America in the 1860's to NYC liked it and stayed there. My great great grandfather, John Jacobs came to America in 1872 when he was only 17. He came to NY on the ship De Ruyter. He visited Andrew when he came through NYC, but left to go to Arkansas, because between 1870 and 1890 the various German organizations in Arkansas used every effort they could to get German settlers to move there. Or at least that's why I believe he chose Arkansas. He stopped in Tennessee first. There he met a lady named Sarah Euginia Wiseman or "Genie" (as I found her in the census, please see census info below on John and Genie).

2.John Jacobs born September 3, 1855 in Kriesfritzler, Germany. Married Sarah Eugenia Wiseman (Geanie) born July 8, 1856 in Camden, Benton County,Tennessee. They were married October 26, 1878 in Rutherford, Tennessee. Geanie's parents were James Franklin Wiseman and Marietta McCarrell. John was a Mechanical Engineer/Cotton Gin/ and Contractor in the state of Arkansas. John died May 14, 1933 and Geanie died in 1945 both in Bald Knob, Arkansas. In John's obituary it is stated that John assisted Thomas Edison in installing the first electric dynamo in Arkansas. Also it stated that he was instrumental in building the Short Line Railroad between Brinkley and Newport. During the 'War to End All Wars', John received a letter from back home in Germany, saying he could come home and claim his property left in his parents' will, but he would have to come home to stay and leave his new american family behind to get this inheritance. He chose to stay in America and I am so glad he did. John and Geanie had 8 children.
