Despite a below par performance from Upney Royal Oak, the team made in four wins in four to go top of the league, for the first time in the clubs history.
After a convincing 5-1 win last week against the same opponents, Upney Royal Oak entered the match with high hopes of another resounding victory. However, it was perhaps overconfidence that made the result of the match uncertain until the final minutes. Due to boss Mickey Carmody's abscence, Steve Silk's first decision as manager was to drop himself to the bench as he experimented with the untested pairing of Nash and Ellis up front, with the intention of introducing himself later in the match. Inexperience didn't stand in the way of the Upney strikers though as good running work by the pair pressured the Bees defence into a number of mistakes. The corner count was steadily rising, and it was from one of the set pieces that the breakthrough came. An outswinging cross from Matty Carmody evaded the Bees defenders and was eventually met by the late run of Andy Jeffs who swept the ball into the back of the net. |
