The Paladins had a disappointing end to the weekend with a 8-2 loss against the University of Ottawa Gee Gees on Sunday afternoon.  The Paladins had a difficult time with their special teams as Ottawa scored 5 power play goals including 3 on 5-3 advantages and they added a short handed goal in the game.

The first period was an evenly played period.  Ottawa opened the scoring at 4:11 with a 5-3 power play goal.The teams then traded 3 goals in a minute 13 seconds giving Ottawa a 3-1 lead.  Dion Lahoda tied the game at 6:58 and then Ottawa scored two straight at 7:49 and 8:11.  Tyler Middlebrook brought the Paladins to within one on the power play at 11:54.

The second period saw end to end action but only Ottawa could manage to put a puck in the net with a power play goal at 14:03.  RMC continued to pressure but could not close the gap.

The third period saw Ottawa break open the game with the help of their special teams.  They scored 3 power play goals, 2 on a 2 man advantage and they added a short handed marker.  RMC put a lot of pressure on but could not buy a bounce to see the puck go in the net.

RMC was again led by Tyler Middlebrook who had a goal and an assist and Dion Lahoda who marked his third goal of the season.

The weekend ends with RMC in sole possession of first place in the OUA Mid-East two points up on Queens.

RMC 5 McGill 4

With their 7th straight 1 goal game, and their third win on the season, RMC moves into solE possession of first place in the OUA Mid East.  RMC walked into Montreal to take on the Far East leading, and 9th ranked McGill Redmen, and came out with a 5-4 victory.

RMC started off slowly as McGill got on the board 2:34 into the first period.  Jeff Todd tied the game at 10:42, with assists from Tyler Middlebrook and Louis Charland.  As the two teams were about to head into the dressing room tied on the scoreboard and the shot clock, McGill netted a power play goal to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was almost an exact reversal of the first.  Josh Fudge tied the game 2:04 into the second with assists from Roman Srutek.  McGill then tied it up on the power play with a goal from ex-Calgary Canuck, Rheal Guinette.  RMC however came back to take the lead with a power play goal of their own as Tyler Middlebrook netted a nice goal from Roman Srutek and Louis Charland at 16:34 of the second to tie the game 3-3 going into the second intermission.

The first 10 minutes of the third period were evenly played with both teams having good scoring chances.  The tide of the game changed when McGill forward Chirs Churchill-Smith took a 5 minute cross-checking major at the 12 minute mark.  On the power play RMC netted two goals to take a 5-3 lead.  A minute and a half into the power play Duaine Fetzner netted an unassisted goal and 2 minutes later Nic Creagan netted a goal from Tyler McTavish and Ian Miller.

With two minutes to play RMCs Jeff Todd was whistled for roughing and this gave the opportunity for McGill to press with a 5 on 3 advantage as Pat McDonald was nailed with an earlier hooking call.  RMC managed to kill off the first penalty however, with their goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, McGill notched a power play goal with 59 seconds left in the third but they could not manage to get the equalizer.

On the night RMC outshot McGill 24-23 with Blair Robertson making several key saves.  RMC was 3 for 8 on the power play and killed six of 8 short handed situations.  Leading RMC were Tyler Middlebrook, 1G and 1A and Louis Charland 2A. 

In other key match ups on the weekend Queens lost both their games 5-0 to McGill and 5-2 to Ottawa, and Toronto lost both of theirs 10-0 to Concordia and 5-4 to UQTR.  This weekend is a key weekend for the OUA East Division teams as all 8 teams are fighting for 6 playoff spots

RMC 3 Concordia 2    stats

     For the first time in six regular season games the Paladins did not make it to the overtime period.  This time the Paladins hung on for a 3-2 win against the Concordia Stingers in front of about 300 hometown fans.
     RMC jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead in an evenly fought opening frame.
     The Paladins extended their lead in the second period to 3-1 despite being outshot 16-9.  Blair Robertson made several key saves to keep the lead of two goals.
     The third period saw the Stingers draw to with in one but Robertson slammed the door shut on several Stinger scoring opportunities.
     RMC was lead by Robertson in net who stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced.  Rookie Dion Lahoda netted his second and third goals of the season and Roman Srutek who had two assists.  Tyler Middlebrook had his point scoring streak stopped at 5 games.
     The win moves RMC into a tie for first with Queens in the OUA Mid East with 8 points on the season.  The 8 points leads all teams in the OUA East Division.
