H. C. Yarnall.
At the home of his son-in-law, J. W. Garner, Ottumwa, Iowa, H. C. Yarnall closed his eyes in his last sleep at 11 o'clock on the evening of November 7th, 1891. The deceased was born at Brandywine Springs, Delaware, October 20th, 1814, and had thus lived out his allotted three-score years and ten. For eighteen years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Garner, and has been the centre of affection of his children and grandchildren. With a heart large with kindness, a disposition always the synonym of cheerfulness, with great thoughtfulness for the welare of others at the sacrifice of his own comfort or convenience, he readily formed deep friendships among those with whom he came in contact, and the attachment of his relatives was more than usually evident. He was a member of the Society of Friends, whose creed was, malice toward none and charity toward all, and his character was certainly a reflex of his creed.
He leaves to mourn his loss three daughters - Mrs. Garner, of that city; Mrs. Emma Lingo, of Keokuk, and Mrs. Fannie Crain, of Washington, Iowa - all of whom were at this bedside when the angel of death closed his eyes in peaceful slumber. He has also two sons, Hallowell and Henry, who are eletricians in the East. The direct cause of his death was pleurisy. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Loren T. Berry, and the remains interred in the Ottumwa Cemetery. The household which has been brightened and cheered by the presence of grandfather will be lonely, but with a faith in an all-wise Providence they can take comfort from the thought that all is well, for "He giveth His beloved sleep."

John Hall
John Hall, the oldest resident of West Chester, and probably of Chester county, passed away yesterday at his home on North Matlack street. Though nearing his 100th year, he has been in fairly good health, until a few days ago, when he was made a victim of an attack of grip. The disease proved to be serious, and resulted in the death of the old gentleman.
John Hall belonged to a family such as Chester countians point to with pride. There were originally nine children, Edward, Mahlon, Thomas W., Isaac, John, Jane, William, Sarah and Ann. Thomas died last Aprril after having passed his 102d birthday. Mahlon, Jane and William lived to be more than 80 years of age. Sarah is now in her 95th year, and lives in West Chester, being in good health.
John was born on August 17th, 1797. He was a descendant of Matthew Hall, who came to this country in 1701. John's parents were Mahlon and Mary Heston Hall, who lived in West Philadelphia, conducting a farm upon the ground now covered with streets and dwellings. John learned the pottery trade, but preferred farming to that business, and followed it until he moved to West Chester probably thirty years ago. He married Sarah Yarnall on October 23, 1862.
While not a member of meeting John Hall was through sympathy and association a Friend. He was a conscientious, honorable man, whose word was as good as his bond. He was liberal in his contributions to philanthropic movements, the Friends Boarding Home on North Walnut street, being one of the institutions that received great aid from him.
John Hall was a Whig from youth, until the formation of the Republican party, when he gave his allegiance to it. From 1818 to 1896 he voted for all the Presidents of the United States, and gloried in the success of that party. During the anti-slavery days he did much to aid fleeing negroes. His voice and his arm were always for the weak and the oppressed. Those who knew him best loved him most, while the respect of all was his. His old age was honorable, and his memory will live long with his wide circle of friends.

A number of friends were present to congratulate the bride and groom and to give good wishes. They will make their home near Glen Mills, where Mr. Thompson is employed. They will take up their home life without any preliminary tour.

Samuel R. Thatcher entered into rest October 23d, 1904, at half-past six a. m., at the home of his brother-in-law, Dr. Levi Hoopes, in his fifty- third year, from heart failure, the sequel of typhoid fever.
He was the son of the late Isaac and Lydia W. Thatcher, of Edgemont, Delaware county.
He was an honest, upright man, faithful to his home until death broke it up. Then for thirteen years he lived with his niece, Mrs. W. Kerr, of East Downingtown. For the past few years he has made his home with Dr. Hoopes, assisting Isaac P. Hoopes while he was in the fruit business, and being since with his successor, Louis P. Ash.

DEATH OF DR. J. W. THATCHER
Dr. J. W. Thatcher, 3500 Hamilton st., one of the best known physicians in West Philadelphia, died of pneumonia on Wednesday. He was taken ill the preceding evening, after having visited sixty-four grip patients that day. The illness was at first apparently a heavy cold. Because of his exhausted condition, however, pneumonia soon developed.
Dr. Thatcher was sixty-five years old. He had been practicing in West Philadelphia for the last forty years. He was a member of the Germantown Medical Society and the State society of homeopathic doctors. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Thatcher; two sons, Dr. T. B. Thatcher and Royal J. Thatcher, and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur L. Bunting and Miss Lillian Thatcher.

Sarah S. Hall
Last evening shortly after eight o'clock Sarah S., widow of the late John Hall, died after a brief illness, at her home on North Matlack street, West Chester, in the eighty-fifth year of her age. She was taken ill on Monday last with pleurisy, which later developed into pneumonia, which proved fatal. She was born in Middletown township, Delaware county, in 1825, and was one of a large number of children of Thomas and Hannah Palmer Thatcher. One sister, Hannah T., widow of Samuel S. Yarnall, of Willistown, this county, is now the only surviving member of the large family of children. The deceased was married to Jacob Yarnall of Delaware county. He is now deceased. By this union there was one child, Lydia Sharpless Yarnall. The latter was married to Benjamin E. Heston, then of Hestonville, Philadelphia, but for many years a resident and Councilman of West Chester. She died here several years ago, leaving two children, Howard and Sallie, married to Frank A. Patton, who have three children, Charles H., Lydia S., and Clara S., all living.
After the death of her first husband the deceased lived in Philadelphia and in 1862 married John Hall, of Hestonville, a retired business man, and well known citizen. In 1871 the latter erected the home on North Matlack street, West Chester, and they removed here where they lived happily for many years. Mr. Hall died on February 3, 1897, at the advanced age of 99 years. Mrs. Hall has continued to reside there ever since. She had a birthright in the Society of Friends and since removing to West Chester has been a regular attendant and some time elder of the High Street Friends' Meeting. She was also a charter member of the North Walnut Street Friends' Home, and a member of the Board of Managers, and took much interest therein, as she did also in other philanthropic and charitable institutions, etc.
She contributed liberally, but unostentatiously, to many of these institutions, and was kind to the poor and rendered assistance quietly to many.
She was a home person, but was fond of her friends and many visited there to see her, because they liked her, and her hospitality. That have lost a warm friend. There are numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives, as well as a large circle of friends, who will mourn the loss of a kind, conscientious, Christian woman, who had done much good in the world.

John Yarnall
Yesterday afternoon, John Yarnall, a resident of this place for several years, passed away about 1.30 o'clock, at his home, No. 113 Dean street, after an illness of about two weeks, from heart trouble, superinduced by a severe attack of grip, in the 68th year of his age. He had been about until two weeks since, when he was taken ill, and confined to bed, but was thought to be slightly improved, when heart failure followed.
He was one of four children of Samuel S. and Hannah Thatcher Yarnall, and was born at Sugartown, Willistown township, where his father was engaged in business for a number of years. Later his father purchased a fine farm on the Paoli road, in the same township, and there the family remained for many years, until death removed both parents. There were four children, the others being as follows: Mary Y., wife of George Thompson, of Dean street, with whom the deceased lived; Abbie W., deceased wife of Edwin Leedom, West Chester, and Hannah E. Yarnall, also of this place.
The deceased was reared on the home farm, and educated at local schools and High Street Friends' School, West Chester. He chose a farmer's life, and industriously tilled the soil successfully, but after his mother's death he removed to West Chester, about four years ago. He met with a severe accident some time before, but was able to walk about daily and meet old friends and former schoolmates. He was a man of the best habits, cheerful and genial, with a keen sense of humor. He was a birthright member of the Society of Friends, and an attendant at High Street Meeting. He also was a member of the Fame Fire Company, No. 3, of this place, and his numerous companions and fellow-members will be pained to learn of his demise. There are other relatives in West Chester and vicinity, as the Yarnall and Thatcher families were among the oldest of Friends' settlers in this and Delaware counties.
