Pigot's Directory for 1830
The following list of names, occupations and addresses has been transcribed from the micro-fiche of the 1830 directory of Gloucestershire.
Tewkesbury is eleven miles from Gloucester and eight from Cheltenham, and features in Domesday Book where it is named Teodechesberie. The MPs in 1830 were John Edmund DOWDESWELL and John MARTIN Esqs. According to Shakespeare, Tewkesbury was noted for its mustard "As thick as Tewkesbury Mustard". The cast iron bridge across the River Severn cost �Stg.36,000 to build. The town in 1821 parliamentary returns for 1821 had 4,962 inhabitants.
