Obituary for Ralph T. Yarnell

Ralph T. Yarnell, age 73, of Shavertown, Kingston Township, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania. Born Feb. 24, 1925, in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, he was son of the late Ralph and Hanna Powell Yarnell Sr.

He attended Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania. Before he retired, he was employed for 31 years with the federal government, first at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, and later as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the SeaBees. He was a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church and Landmark Lodge 442, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Mae, in 1987. Surviving are his wife, the former Laraine Walton; daughters, Gail Zoccola, Wilkes-Barre; Linda Burnett, Hanover Township; a stepdaughter, Patricia Taylor, Plymouth; stepsons, Everett W. Taylor, Luzerne; Ernest Taylor, Shavertown; five grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with the Rev. Douglas Clark officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania.
