Mordecai Yarnell
His Last Will and Testament

Baltimore County, Maryland

I Mordecai Yarnell being indisposed in body but perfectly sound in mind do hereby leave this as my last Will & Testament, and will and bequeath as follows. To my Brothers Peter & Benjamin each a moiety of my wardrobe & articles of fancy or convenience which may be considered as belonging thereto except my gold watch which I wish sold reserving the two gold seals & key, the gold seal with my plain metials I leave to my sister Rebecca, the seal with our family crest & enitials I leave to my brother Benjamin and the gold key marked with my enitials I leave to my brother Peter these are trifling articles but are dear to surving relatives, my Library, as well as my book case & secretary, with all other Articles of furniture, as well as my horses chair and everything else belonging to my Estate & after paying all my private debts except those provided for by the accompanying articles of partnership between myself & John Cornthwait the proceeds, together with what money may be due me from the business of said concern at the expiration of one year after my decease I bequeath as follows one half to my sister Rebecca and the remaining moiety to be divided equally between my Brothers Peter & Benjamin, This distinction I make from a conviction that my brothers in the present state of the world if industrious can soon become independent ?? whilst a female without money can rarely ever rise above dependence and not from any partiality distinction in regard

And to carry into effect this my last will & Testament. I hereby constitute & appoint as my Executors Gerard T. Hopkins of the City of Baltimore and Benjamin Ferriss of the City of Philadelphia as my Executors who are requested to attend to the Execution thereof. Mordecai Yarnell Signed and sealed in the presence of this 23rd day of the 3 month 1808. John Cornthwait. It is my wish that my sister be put in possession of all my letters & papers.

Baltimore County to wit on the 17th day of August 1808 came John Cornthwait who solemnly declared and affirmed that he did see the Testator sign and seal this will that he heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound disposing mind memory and understanding that he subscribed his name as a witness to this Will in his presence and at his request and in Affirmed before me Register of Will for Baltimore County.
