Louise L. Yarnall, age 84. For 17 years, Riverside County residents knew who to turn to when they had certain problems around the house. They would call the office of Louise L. Yarnall, the Riverside County University of California's Agricultural Service, who answered questions on everything from preserving food to using furniture wax.

Mrs. Yarnall, 84, died Jan. 1, 1997 at her daughter's home in Alhambra, California where she had been visiting for the holidays. The family did not disclose the cause of death.

Mrs. Yarnall, a Riverside County resident for 38 years, began her career as a home economist for the UC system in 1947 helping rural homemakers in Madera County. She became the system's home adviser for Riverside County in 1958 and held the job until retiring in 1975. As a home adviser, Mrs. Yarnall dispensed information to help homemakers, taught nutrition and home furnishing courses, wrote advice columns for some small newspapers in Riverside County and put out a monthly newsletter called "Home Economic Notes."

Mrs. Yarnall was born on Aug. 27, 1912, on a homestead in what then was the territory of New Mexico. She received a bachelor's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and a master's degree in nutrition from Iowa State College. She was member of American Association of University Women and Zonta Business Women's Club and was volunteer at the Riverside Museum. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Braemar Place Community Room, 4679 Braemar Place, Riverside.

Mrs. Yarnall is survived by two daughters; Emily Yarnall of Alhambra, California and Elizabeth Paxon of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; three sisters, Catherine Traver of Willow Springs Mo., Mabel Trovillion of Paducah Ky., and Maryjane Cavanaugh of Las Vegas Nev.
