Welcome to the homepages of Cardiff University's Roleplaying and Wargaming Society (RAWSOC). We aim to bring together gamers of all varieties, not just to play games, but also to drink and socialise. As such we have acquired an enthusiastic rabble who are always keen to participate in or run a range of roleplaying and wargaming systems, from D&D 3rd Ed to Paranoia. We also run other board game sessions and collectable card games (such as Magic the Gathering). We have connections within the local gaming industry, in particular with Cardiff Games - the local games specialists. Members of RAWSOC get a nice 10% discount, and btw, this discount is NOT available to students in general, only to our society and another RPG society!
Not all of our members are hard-core roleplayers, and we cater for all levels of gaming experience. Many members return to the society after finishing their studies and this adds to the vitality and variety of our gaming sessions. We are an Equal Opportunities Society: there is a good "male/female" ratio which we always try to encourage, whilst we are still looking for our first hermaphrodite member.
We have our official society meeting every Wednesday at the Pen & Wig pub, from 7.30pm onwards, until the bar staff tip us out on to the streets and let us stagger our merry way home. (The Pen & Wig can be found from Park Place; walk through Incognitos, yes, straight through, and you'll find the Pen & Wig in the back yard, virtually...) However, this is just the tip of the iceburg and we like to organise a number of social events in addition to the numerous gaming sessions that are held each week. For example we have just had the Christmas Gaming Session, which included Paranoia, 7th Sea and a Vampire: Sabbat game!
If you are not already a member and are interested in joining in, you are more than welcome to pop along and have a better look or contact any member of the Exec. I hope this web site will provide a good insight into what we get up to and perhaps will encourage others to join us in our festivities!
