Was in command of Fort Algernon at Point comfort.
Had a son Thomas, b. 1613, who had James, b.1642, who married Margaret Jordan.
Their son William m. Anne Hopper aug. 1667.
Three brothers came from Milford south Wales,
on the ship "James and Mary" In 1701.
Evan Davis, son of John Davis,
settled on the Pee Dee river in S.C. In 1733 he married a widow Williams.
Evan Davis supposedly had sons--Henry and Samuel.
Henry Davis settled three miles south of Polkton NC and reared a large family.
Henry was supposed to be the father of Christopher, will dated 1788; and
John Davis who married 1)Miss Barber 2)Nancy Marchall Nance.

..Kent, England supposedly has most of the records of that time....
1650 is the date given on the note but is relitive to what..

It is said they lived near Oakland City and Norman Davis was buried in Pike Co.
about 2mi. north and west of there in the Williams Cemetary east of Oakland City about 4 Miles
next to his sister and stillborn brother...
Jesse fought in Battle of New Orleans...returned and received a large land grant
from the President. Said land has been devided among his decendents over the years..
Another Son was captured and died of Malnutrition and Starvation in Andersonville POW camp
during the Civil war...wife remarried..active in Indiana Legislation.

" Davis is one of the oldest Welsh family names. The line can be
traced
for many centuries and is said to include King Cole and Cadwaldar. The
motto
of the family is 'With God as a Leader and a Sword as a Comrad".
Of the many Davis emigrants to America the family which later
became
the most notable is that of Evan Davis, Samuel Davis and Joseph Davis;
three
brothers who emigrated from Cardiff, Wales, about 1730,. Evan Davis and
Samuel Davis landed at Philadelphia: Joseph Davis went what was then the
Middle West.
Some time after 1761, the exact date not being known,Evan Davis
emigrated from Pennsylvania, to Georgia. He married while still in
Pennsylvania, Mrs. Mary Emory Williams, a widow. Her father was Joseph
Emory. By her first marriage this lady had two sons, Daniel Williams and
Isaac William, both of whom were soldiers in the Revolution . It was due
to
their participation in the war that their young half -brother, Samuel
Davis
also joined the forces of the revolution, being sent by their mother to
join
them
Evan Davis and his wife (Mary Emory Davis), had at least one son,
Samuel
Davis, mentioned above, who was born in the Pennsylvania in 1756. this
Samuel Davis, who was in the revolution, was the father of President
Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States of American".

Clary & Sally. 2 of the witnesses are Jesse Davis and Travis Davis.
Peggy md. Travis Davis, Mollie(Mary) md. Warren Davis, and Clarissa
(Clary) md. Isaac Davis. William's oldest son Thomas Ludwell Kincheloe
md. Nancy Edwards, his son Phillip K. of Wright Co. MO md. Caroline
Stith, and their son George Stith Kincheloe md. as his 2nd wife a
Rachel Davis. Is the Isaac who md. Clarissa K. also a son of Isaac, Jr.?
Most of this info was sent to me by Helen Payton of Charleston, SC and I
haven't had time to run it all down, so I can't vouch for all of it. The will
is
for real and the info on Phillip K. of Wright Co. is from the Wright Co.
Heritage Book which are not always dependable. Also where does
Travis Davis fit in ? I assume that Elizabeth Canterbury's mother is
supposedly a dau. of the Roger Williams. I've been meaning to check
that out.
