bass-ic instincts

like i said on the page before, a very bad pun.   but i'm in a weird mood, so it fits.  last night donna bought me my valentine's day present 2 weeks early, and it's just about the coolest thing i could ask for...

a brandy-spanking new to me Ibanez Roadstar II bass guitar.  cherry red (can't tell in the case, unfortunately) slick neck, and just about the warmest bass sound i have ever heard.  one of the best moments i ever had as an amateur musician was playing bass guitar in an ad hoc jazz-lite band in a friend's basement in college.  those were the days...

it's amazing just how quickly i've been picking up playing the bass again.  when/if i ever get into a new band, it'll probably be on bass and vocals.

bassists i admire/who have influenced me:

ian 'lemmy' kilminster, hawkwind (also motorhead, but mostly his hawk-era material)

chris squire, yes (incredible sound)

eerie von, samhain/danzig (simpler playing, but great at holding down the bottom end)

peter trewavas, marillion (melodic playing)
