Another Priyanka steps in

(Source : www.msn.co.in)

These days if you have to shine as a Tamil heroine, you have to have a North Indian sounding name.

And they come not more North Indian than Priyanka Trivedi.

The Gujarat-born compact beauty earned her spurs in Tamil through Rajjiyam. She was paired opposite Vijaykanth. Before coming to Tamil, she made a big splash in Kannada through the intriguingly titled H2O.

The film raked up much heat and created a lot of controversies. Alas, it did not rake or create anything at the box-office.

"That was a major disappointment for me," says Priyanka Trivedi wryly. "It was a sensitive film. But the chauvinistic controversies surrounding it did not allow it to run in Karantaka. And there were no takers for it in Tamil".

In that film, Priyanaka Trivedi, playing the role of a village girl Kauvery is wooed by Tamilian Prabhu Deva and Kannadiga Upendra. The story is in a sense metaphor for the Kauvery river water imbroglio.

But taking that failure in her stride, Priyanka has now plunged headlong into Tamil. "I thought Rajjiyam would give me a good break. But my role was chopped at the editing table. It was sad, but I had the satisfaction of working with a big star like Vijaykanth in my very first film here".

If her flash-back is a bit sad, her future looks more cheery. Priyanka is one of the heroines opposite Ajith in his forthcoming release Raja. "It is a comedy movie," she says and adds "it was so for us while shooting too".

Priyanka has competition in the film in the form of Jyothika. "My character is pretty well etched. I play a city-bred Brahmin girl. Ajith stays in our house and I fall in love with him. This is the broad outline," she says enthusiastically.

After Raja, Priyanaka has been signed to play the lead opposite Tamil's most happening hero Vikram. "The film is Athisiyam. I am also looking forward to one in my career," she says. (In Tamil Athisiyam means wonder or miracle).

The main charge against Priyanka is that she is into too much of glamour. "It is inevitable in this field," she says defensively. "If you don't do it somebody else will".

Okay, she has some glamour.

Now she has to show the other G - grit.

Priyanka Versus Priyanka

Priyanka Trivedi has plunged into glamour. She stars as the heroine in the films, 'H20' and 'Kadhal Sadugudu'.

Priyanka says that glamour and romance are no taboo for her. But she is quick to add that there is a limit for her in displaying glamour. But a question arises in our mind when we see some stills of her. "Is there a limit at all? Really?"

(Miss World Priyanka Chopra is slated to act alongside Vijay in the movie, 'Velan'. A problem has cropped up because of the identical nature of the names of these two actresses. Priyanka Trivedi has been asked to effect a change in her name.

But she is not for changing her name. As of now she is stubborn. Will she stick to her guns? There is no telling what is going to happen.

The Little Nymphet

Priyanka Trivedi, the lil Maharashtrian Mirchi who dared to bare in the Kannada film H2O is one of the heroines in Ajits Raja. There is a kissing scene in the film which has sent shockwaves in the placid Tamil industry. There is a back shot of Ajit kissing her on the lips, three times in the film! Those who saw a sneak preview of Raja says that she has made mincemeat out of Jyothika, who looks very plump and jaded.

In the film Priyanka and Jyothika study in the same college and being a very nave innocent girl, she is nicknamed thair sadam by her seniors. However she does not expose in the film as she plays an orthodox Iyer girl wearing pavada-dhavani throughout the film. She is forced by Jyothika to gather information about the hero who is her neighbour. But our hero falls in love with thair sadam and then comes the twist in the tale.

If Raja does well, the little nymphet from Mumbai is sure to go places.

Hey, I'm a Glamor Babe!- Priyanka Trivedi

Two years ago, Priyanka Trivedi was launched in Tamil by KT Kunjumon in his film 'Kaadhal Swaasam'. But, when all his films were buried, her high hopes ended even before it took off. Right now, she is singing 'I will survive' to herself.

She still has hopes because Tamil audience hasnt seen her portfolio yet.

Though she was wrapped up in saree in her first film 'Raaja', she still managed to earn accolades. more than Jyothika did in the film. But, the kind of response and recognition that Bipasha Basu and her beautiful body earned in Hindi made Priyanka Trivedi bite her nails. 'Nobody in Tamil has the kind of body like I do to play such roles', she keeps saying to her producers. To prove her point, she has been very liberal with her costumes adn dance routines in films like 'Kaadhal Chadugudu', 'Jananam' and 'Ice'.

Normally, newcomers try to establish themselves like Savithri or Revathy. Here's an actress who has Bipasha Basu for a rolemodel.

Does anybody see?

Priyanka, Trisha: Replacing Simran, Jyothika?

(Source : www.msn.com)

It was a question that was being increasingly asked in Kollywood. After Simran and Jyothika, who? It was not as if the admirable actresses have faded away from the scene.

If anything, they are still around, doing important and interesting characters. They are in demand, acting alongside top stars. But in an industry, in which those out of teens are considered over the hill, Simran and Jyothika can be considered veterans. And hence the question we asked at the start.

Every time it was asked there was a helpless shrug of the shoulders and a shake of the heads from most. Quite simply, no one really looked like that they could replace the redoubtable duo. Those who came on the scene either had glamour or the acting prowess, but never the two together. In the event, Simran and Jyothika looked irreplaceable. But, not anymore.

On the evidence of Kadhal Sadugudu and Samy it can be safely said that heir apparents to the Jyothika and Simran are on the way. The two Vikram starrers have apart from showcasing his own ability have also brought to fore the talent of Priyanka Trivedi and Trisha.

The duo has also been around for some time around without promising much. But the two films look to have changed them and the outlook of others on them. Though Kadhal Sadugudu is not a real success, it has helped Priyanka Trivedi establish herself as the glamour star who can act a bit - just like Simran in her early years. Cast in an innocent and impish college girl role, the buxom Priyanka has managed to catch the eye with effervescence and talent.

Seen earlier in films like Raja and Kaveri, Priyankas looked to be a career going nowhere. But after Kadhal Saugudu, the tide seems to have changed. She has a film with Arun Kumar (Jananam) in the pipeline; but several others are coming her way, and if she continues her good show, the only way for her is up.

For Trisha, a former Miss Chennai, Samy, has not come a day soon. Launched with fanfare and hope, her first two films - Mounam Pesiyathe and Mansellam - did not exactly set any river on fire. With another of her much expected film Lehsa, Lehsa, stuck in the cans, people were sceptical about her future. But through a polished performance in Samy, Trisha has proved that she can be trusted to go the whole hog.

The thing about Trisha and Priyanka is they have both oomph and ability. A rare combination. And, to replace Jyothika and Simran, you need both.

The actress didn't do more than a handful of films, but, she is all set to become a financier.

Priyaka Trivedi is all set to pump in money for a stalled project that she had been acting in- a Tamil film named 'Jananam'. Her co-star in the film is Arun Kumar.

Priyanka Trivedi had acted in films like 'Kaadhal Chadugudu' and 'Ice' before. Both had failed miserably. She was pinning all her hopes on this film, 'Jananam'. The film was stagnating because funds weren't available.

Priyanka herself met quiet a few financiers to generate some money for this film. But, nothing worthwhile happened. That was when she decided to put the money in herself.
