good music here.

new introductory bit here.

This is a reviews page based on my own collection, which just keeps growing despite itself. If it isn't listed here, it's because I don't own it yet, or I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Also, bother your local "new rock" radio station and make sure they are playing "new rock" and not "Rock the Casbah," which is not new.

note: entries in red text indicate my pick for the artist's best available album. A gold numeral indicates the POPocalypse winner of the year's best album; second- and third-place winners are in blue. Green lettering indicates an obviously exploitative record company compilation without apparent artist input.

recordings include:
Ghost Stories (2000, ***)
"Filthy Mind" (2000)
"Idol" (2000, UK #63)

London's Amanda Ghost spent the late 90s cultivating a network among the city's DJs and nightclubs, so that when she sold the upbeat "Filthy Mind" to Warner Brothers, it guaranteed interest from the nation's top remixers and engineers, ranging from Dark Globe to Boy George. Comprising everything from trip-hop to electronica anthems, her debut Ghost Stories is understandably a little scattered, but her excellent lyrics and confident delivery salvages all the material, making "Idol" my pick for best single of 2000. "Filthy Mind," meanwhile, is certain to be a standard for strip clubs for the next ten years.
