Clarity is the mother of prevention.

So another Google search leads me to stumble upon yet another record review site. Another Prindle clone. How charming.

For the record, I've been acquainted with Mark Prindle for a very long time. He and I actually appear on film together, in the blooper reel for Corn Pone Flicks, some Atlanta filmmakers I know. (I'm the ugly one with the obnoxious voice blowing his lines all through the thing; Mark's the longhair looking for boobies on the scrambled Playboy Channel. He and I (attempt to) exchange jackets in an impromptu, improvised little surreal bit shot in a furnished basement that's meant to be a sewer. That was 1990 and I don't think I've seen him since.)

The first version of these pages was up a very long time ago... 1995, actually, and I've been tinkering and fiddling with them since. Until 2000, I was completely unaware of the very large record-reviewing community online. Apparently Wilson & Allroy came online around the same time, getting a lot more traffic than me. Mark Prindle wasn't long behind them, and since then, most of the record reviewers have been following in Mark's enormous footsteps, either through inspiration or, in at least three cases, downright sad imitation.

This site is nothing like Mark's. For one thing, I'm not as funny as him. His Miles Davis section -- he cannot stand Miles -- is hysterical. You should read it immediately for its casual, eye-rolling iconoclasm. On the other hand, I'd much rather read four sentences about an album than 500 words, particularly when 400 of them comprise dick-and-pussy jokes. But that's just me.

Also, there is no space here for reader feedback. Nor do I believe there should be, when you can set up your own record review site at Geocities in as much time as it takes some of these nutcases who whine to Mark "How dare you?! This album has none of the divine grandeur of Styx's Paradise Theatre!!"

That's not to say I don't appreciate feedback. I've received a couple of hundred comments over the years, ranging from bitchy snipes that I missed Speak & Spell on my Depeche Mode "discography" (that'd be 'cause I don't own it, bob) to graciously-accepted corrections to really long things from people who really don't have anything better to do than send a paragraph-by-paragraph rebuttal of my Beatles review, which, damn, I should have kept.

On the pages within, you'll find occasional links to home pages for Athens and Atlanta bands. This is just my small way of supporting local music. I don't earn anything from click-throughs, but if you're at all intrigued, do pop across to learn more. Wherever you live, try to support local music when you can! Also, check out athensmusic.net for most of the latest news from Athens, and home pages for most of its bands.

I'd appreciate some links, too. Sometimes I wonder how in the world anyone ever finds this site. On that note, apart from Prindle and WARR, here are some other review sites. (Note these are added as other people contact me; I generally don't read other people's reviews so much as stumble across them looking for live stuff!)
