Place Victoria B&B Inn HISTORY |
Keeping history alive in Spallumcheen Place Victoria Mansion built in 1892 In 1892, Tom Shields, a well known stone mason in Spallumcheen built the mansion at Place Victoria. The mansion was built on a full-sized basement, the walls measure up to two feet. At that time, very few houses were built with a full size basement. In 1892, the original size of the farm was 640 acres. Today the size of Rieger Farms is 54 acres, upon which organic produces are grown, alfalfa hay is made and the farm is the home to numerous animals. The Rieger's started Place Victoria Bed & Breakfast Inn in 1993. Place Victoria B&B Inn is located in park like setting on Rieger Farms in the Township of Spallumcheen the largest municiplaity in South East British Columbia, reaching from Vernon to Enderby and has over 64,000 acres. Spallumcheen is also known as the most scenic muncipality in British Columbia. Less than 5,000 people enjoying country life at Best. For six years Guenter Rieger served as the mayor of the Township of Spallumcheen. Years filled with memories, some disappointments, many accomplishents, but also with wisdom and understanding for local, provincial and federal politics, dictated his life during that time. In 1996 Guenter decided to retire from local politics, to be able to spend more time with his family and on the farm. Maybe he will write a book, about his life serving in public office as mayor of the Township of Spallumcheen, and dealings with other levels of governments. In 1992, the Township of Spallumcheen and Place Victroria's celebrated their Centennial Today Guenter and Regina are enjoying hosting guests from all over the world at Place Victoria B&B Inn. A place, which guests call " that home away from home." The Blacksmith House built in 1886 The history of the Blacksmith House first house on the farm, dates back to 1886, at which time the house served, for many years, as a home for a family of seven. After the mansion was built, the Blacksmith House was used as a workshop and home for the farm's blacksmith. The Blacksmith House was renovated to provide you a pleasant stay.. Many challenges had to be over come in order to keep the original charater of the house. The original wooden beams were handcrafted in 1886 and are still visible in the rooms. Today, guests at Place Victoria B&B Inn enjoy a private and tranquil setting of the Blacksmith House. |
