| World Gone Wild (1988) Cast:Bruce Dern, Michael Pare, Adam Ant, Catherine Mary Stewart, Julius Carry A civilization hires a bunch of mercenaries to protect them from a sadistic church run by Adam Ant, it turns out Dern the hippie leader has discovered water, and has bribed his son (Pare) to help out in this admittedly goofy but very watchable actioner. Some movies are guilty pleasures that even the most seasoned critic can't help but enjoy, World Gone Wild is one of these occasions, the production values are sharp and the actors thankfully never take any of this schmaltz the least bit seriously. It's done in a way, you could imagine Albert Pyun, indeed since this was made before a lot of Pyun's movies one can't help but wonder if this didn't serve as inspiration, there are many campy moments that make the time fly by. One hysterical moment is when Pare finally after much hard work is about to get in the pants of the admittedly hot Stewart, but just when he finally succeeds and you just know they're gonna have a sexscene, Adam Ant attacks. Prompting an understandingly frustrated Pare to say "Oh come on, what now!" You can't help but feel sorry for Michael Pare, especially since it took him a long time not only to convince her that he wasn't a savage but also worthy of her virginity, Infact Pare struggles with this moreso than actually fighting it with Ant. Goody two shoes indeed. The rest of the movie is done with so much energy and tounge-in-cheek you have to assume that this may indeed be a parody on the Mad Max genre, although those films are generally much better and exciting, World Gone Wild brings a sense of welcome laughter, it does effortlessly what Pyun's atrocious Radioactive Dreams labored to do.
