Velocity Trap (1998)

Cast:Olivier Gruner, Alicia Coppola, Ken Olandt

Olivier Gruner stars as an ex-cop or soldier (It's never made clear) who protects a spaceship crew from theives who plan on stealing some kind of currency, while covering up their tracks by disposing of the crew, oh there's also a meteor on the way as Olivier Gruner dispatches them by the dozens he also romances a female soldier who may or may not be in on the scam in this laughably embarrassing Gruner vehicle.

There are many reasons that movies like this are hard to find in rental circuits, because
Velocity Trap is piece of crap. There are so many things wrong with the premise that is littered with the usual cliches, not to mention the uninspired actionscenes and as usual we have the usual plot-holes which someone could drive a spaceship through, but what makes this movie so bad is just how incredibly boring it is. It's such an astonishingly bad rip-off of Armageddon (Itself an astonishingly bad movie) with Die Hard thrown in, that the viewer is literly often shaking his head with disbelief. The one aspect of the film that is reasonably well done is the special effects, they're better than average for such trash, plus there are a few unintentional laughs such as the scene where Gruner does ballet, but mostly through out this is bad stuff. For a superior type of movie like this try Michael Pare's Falling Fire which does a lot more with it's premise and actually has entertainment. This one though is an embarrassment. D.Phillip J. Roth *
