| Under Siege (1992) Cast:Steven Seagal,Tommy Lee Jones,Gary Busey,Erika Elenik Seagal stars as a cook who is thrown into action when high tech pirates take over a ship with nuclear weapons to use on the U.S government in this box office smash that made Seagal a household name. (Well at least in my house). Which makes for quite a suspenseful and entertaining actioner. Coming from the truly intense Out For Justice , Seagal made Under Siege a box office smash that Seagal would be known for. Under Siege is your basic Die Hard clone but the incredibly fast pace helps disguise the plot holes and bland qualities of the star which is a blessing because Seagal can't really act. Although celebrated as Seagal's best movie, I for one disagree since this movie while satisfying on the level it sets out to accomplish lacks the meaner edged energy of Out For Justice and the story has been told before in the superior Die Hard which featured more suspense and more character development. Of course Under Siege is still a genuinely enjoyable action flick, especially due to the presence of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey which provide the fun outside of the action sequences.D.Andrew Davis *** |
