| U.S Seals (1999) Cast:Jim Fitzpatrick,Ty Miller, Greg Collins, J.Kenneth Campbell A band of navy seals take on a terrorist who for some reason is ripping of battleships and so forth, also the head soldier is ticked off at this bad guy for killing his wife in this annoyingly derivative and unexciting bore. Although a couple of the actionscenes are decent, for the most part they remain almost as exhausted as the film. One of the main problems with the film is that the movie features unknown actors with no aptitude for doing action movies. Michael Dudikoff or someone in the C grade actioners could've made this film enjoyable however in the hands of a bunch of unknowns, we never learn their names and they never convince us of their purpose and would be dillemas faced in this fairly dull effort. Also there is no story to really tie any of the action together so it all falls back on a "coolness" factor which maybe acceptable if not for the fact that it was filled with a bunch of dull unknowns. Worst of all the actionscenes themselves are only mediocre, indeed the climax does have a decent fightscene but overall it's nothing you haven't seen before. Worst of all this is a rip off of Navy Seals, which in itself was no great shakes. Add in the fact that the main hero looks like Casey Kasem and the main bad guy looks like Moe from The Three Stooges and it's no wonder this was a failure. However in the hands of Yossi Wein the directing is aimless and we fail to even learn the names of anyone in the entire movie. Indeed we never learn the villain's plans or motivations or any backround on the soldiers themselves. Basically this is generic action movie making by the numbers and because of it's leaden predictability, US Seals emerges as one of the duller genre entries. D.Yossi Wein*1/2 |
