| Navy Seals (1990) Cast:Charlie Sheen, Michael Biehn, Joanne Whalley-Kilmer,Bill Paxton,Rick Rossovich Charlie Sheen and Michael Biehn star as two soldiers in a Navy Seal circuit who are given the assignment to intercept a bunch of stinger missles from Arab terrorists are threatening America for the usual reason and into action they go where many people die and everything blows up real good in this brainless actioner which has it's moments but the script is too lousy to overcome. Indeed the biggest reason Navy Seals is such a disappointment is because of Charlie Sheen who plays withouta doubt one of the most obnoxious characters of his career, he is completely irresponsible and because of him many of his friends get killed, whether that or not is the point of the movie, I don't know, what I do know is that the movie never addresses the fact that Sheen shouldn't be such a daredevil for this particular reason, of course being that the script writes his character to do this, I guess Sheen can't be blamed for this, especially since Sheen does give an adequate performance for such a lame character. On the other hand Biehn in particular is more hard edged and seems more believable, it's just that the drama also doesn't work on any level. There really isn't much inspiration or interest in making any of these disputes seem believable. The only time Navy Seals entertains in when it offers up the action. Sheen and Biehn of course have always been believable here and of course when they start shooting the movie starts getting enjoyable. The action is very well staged but like I said there is just way too much melodrama which bogs down the film, the romantic love angle in particular is worthless and like everything else it's all riddled with cliches and melodrama. So I guess as an actioner Navy Seals does it's job by providing enough action that is indeed impressive but the movie still isn't as fun as it should be and for that I can't really recommend it.
