| Martial Law 2:Undercover (1991) Cast:Jeff Wincott, Cynthia Rothrock, Billy Drago,Evan Lurie This time Jeff Wincott takes over for Chad McQueen as the karate cop who with his girlfriend partner takes a big bite out of crime with his martial artistry as well as avenging a friend's death who is set up by a bunch of mobsters looking to buy a sports franchise in this very improved sequel. Martial Law 2:Undercover is without a doubt miles better than it's astonishingly lame predecessor, for one Jeff Wincott is at least a far better martial artist and screen fighter than Chad McQueen as well as the fact that Wincott is a much better actor as well. Sure Wincott isn't exactly oscar quality but at least he has a screen presence and he has far more chemistry with Cynthia Rothrock. Indeed we believe them as a credible couple and for this Martial Law 2 is a signifigant improvement over # 1, then there are the fightscenes which are done very well. Where as Rothrock outclassed McQueen in both areas in Martial Law, Wincott is also very sharp giving Rothrock an easy run for the money. Both Wincott and Rothrock breeze through the fightscenes with such intensity that Martial Law 2 becomes a lot of fun. Plus it's always nice to see Billy Drago again, the plot itself is routine but for a straight ahead chop socky actioner, Martial Law 2 stands out from the crowd. D.Kurt Anderson*** |
