| Gangland (2001) Cast:Sasha Mitchell,Costas Mandylor,Kathleen Kinmont,Ice-T,Coolio,Vince Klyn,Tim Thomerson Sasha Mitchell, Costas Mandylor and Kathleen Kinmont star as three soldiers who join forces to defeat a group of street punks who try to rule the world, also there's a plauge and the world is a wasteland in this rotten remake of Cyborg. I happened to wonder one day, whatever became of Sasha Mitchell? Afterall the guy starred in 3 Kickboxer sequels and for that matter developed a reasonable fanbase and was a better actor then a lot of his rivals in the C-grade straight to video market. So when I stumbled upon Gangland which said in big letters "STARRING SASHA MITCHELL (The star of Kickboxer 2)" I thought I was in bad movie heaven, until I learned that this is a remake of the awful Van Damme movie, Cyborg, a movie that Van Damme still is embarrassed about. It wasn't until I saw Sasha Mitchell confront Vince Klyn (The bad guy in Cyborg once again..) about the murder of his brother, that I learned just how far the Spike Of Bensonhurst's career had fallen. Think about it, being an actionstar, you know your never gonna be the next coming of Robert DeNiro so all you do is churn out martial arts movies that are always crap but the question is if it's enjoyable crap. Which bring us to Gangland, which is just plain bad. No camp appeal and no real action to speak of. Indeed, to tell you how bad Gangland is, hard to describe because Gangland is so terrible it defies mere words. The action itself is poorly constructed and badly directed. The story is moronic and the script is laughable, indeed the poor judgement on the part of the producers is quite evident, since Kinmont doesn't once lose her shirt, indeed her bust is only her talent, and yet Kinmont is wasted in this regard because she can't really act so to cast her in anything where she doesn't take her top off is self defeating purpose in an already pointless movie. The acting from everybody is horrid, actually I take that back. Sasha Mitchell is actually okay, the script doesn't give him anything to work with, but his screen presence is the only thing that keeps one from just switching it off, unfortunately Mitchell plays second fiddle to Mandylor and once Mitchell wiggles his way out of this movie the movie just becomes an unbearable suckfest. Mandylor and Klyn are embarrassing and Thomerson looks embarrassed as he should be, because Gangland is awful. Awful in every sense of the word. D.Art Camacho * |
