Best Of The Best 3:No Turning Back (1995)

Cast:Phillip Rhee,Gina Gershon,Christopher McDonald,R.Lee Ermey

Upon reading
Ziggy's movie review of this, I knew I had to go back and see it again, since really it had been nine years since I saw this. What I saw was shocking. Best 3 was a racist and vile exploitation movie which for some reason decided to have a message which only makes the movie even worse then one could even imagine. Phillip Rhee returns as a martial artist who takes on the KKK who are responsible for killing black priests and declaring war on the town in this moronic and offensive crap.

I actually don't give a damn about the politics of a movie as long as the movie provides some alright actionscenes and entertains, but
Best Of The Best  3 is a failure in all departments here. Unlike the predecessors the movie lacks any sense of crispness which made the other two watchable. The action at times seems so limp that it often gives off the impression of a rag-doll. Rhee directs each scene with moronic simplicity and with awkward camera movements. The acting is poor and the script is tedious. However what is most shocking is how racist the movie is at times. The beginning involves the murder of a black priest who is beaten to death by the KKK, neglecting at how serious this material is, Rhee ends up glorifying it, which is so cruel and distasteful the movie never recovers.

Maybe as a serious drama the plot thread could be used with better results, but not in a martial arts actioner like this.  Action movies with a message are often hard to make, that's why one truly admires at how hard a movie like
Bloodfist III:Forced To Fight was to make. Best Of The Best 3 though remains a thoroughly unpleasant waste of time. D.Phillp Rhee *
