Best Of The Best (1989)

Cast:Eric Roberts,Phillip Rhee,Christopher Penn,James Earl Jones,Sally Kirkland,Walter Grady

It's a wonder what A-list actors can get suckered into. "Best Of The Best" boasts one of the oldest plot threads since the introduction of sound.

How many revenge movies/Karate movies can you make? Obviously the producers think another one so they took some good actors put them in a standard melodrama and used filler on countless training sequences that stop the movie from going anywhere. All of this is fairly predictable stuff the moment we see Robert's son (Grady) we just know something is gonna happen to the little tyke.

.The karate matches themselves are pretty decent but this strictly routine fare fails to capture any heartfelt moments making the movie seem very superficial. The movie itself got bad ratings including a "BOMB" rating from Leonard Maltin but "Best Of The Best" isn't that bad it just was tiresome and unexciting which is why I cannot recommend it.......D.Robert Radler
