Why Phi Sigma Sigma? ---- What We Offer YOU!
Please Read: Why Join? from Nationals
Letter to parents from Sandy Grossman, Grand Archon, Phi Sigma Sigma Fraternity
Mission Statement
To create an environment that fosters the advancement of womanhood and growth and development of each member through commitment to leadership, academic excellence, philanthropic service, good health and citizenship. We pledge to perpetuate these goals and ideals to all who will know us in the name of Phi Sigma Sigma.
Scholarship
Education is the purpose of college. CSUS's fraternities and sororities realize this and therefore require a certain grade point average to be eligible for membership. Phi Sig rewards scholarship achievement by giving rewards to sisters that have achieved high academic marks as well as improvement. Panhellenic council also gives awards out to chapters.
Leadership
Membership in a sorority can present to the college student many opportunities for leadership which she may not otherwise find. Of all factors in a college environment, Greeks offer the greatest opportunity for leadership development. They not only provide training in the principles of leadership, but sororities give the hands on experience in which these principles may be put into practice.
Leadership opportunities are provided in several different forms. Members participate in chapter leadership positions, Panhellenic Council leadership positions, and many campus wide activities and organizations. Greeks also encourage participation in scholastic achievement, community service, and athletics. The CSUS community looks to the Greek system to provide top leaders, as many are involved in Associated Students Incorporated.
Friendship
One of the most important component of sorority life is friendship. Greek life is a time when friendships develop through living, studying, and working together. It is the sense of family that the organization provides. Even after graduation the bond of sisterhood remains.
Philanthropy and Community Service
The most gratifying aspect of Greek Life is the satisfaction and pride that comes with involvement in community service. We recognize the need and concern to raise money and donate time to special philanthropies. We contribute to various philanthropic activities with time, money, energy, and action. By dedicating themselves to helping others, Greek organizations assist their members in the development of moral character.
Social Events
We strive to present a well balanced and entertaining social program because the social development of its members is essential to the well being of the entire chapter. All social activities are designed not to interfere with scholastic achievement of the member, but rather serve as another aspect of their college education. Some of the unique opportunities the CSUS Greek system and Phi Sig provides are semi formals, intramural sports, Greek Weeks, theme parties, and sisterhood functions.
