Intern Orientation Home
Finances
Although usually looked upon with great trepidation and misgiving, raising funds actually serves as the great buttress of ministry, providing immeasurable support more so than in terms of mere dollars through encouragement, prayer, insight, and other resources.  Even more, raising support allows others to partner with you in sharing what God is doing in your life and ministry.  As a form of support, partnership stands as foundational to any ministry.  Money without partnership is in vain.  So, while you may need to raise living and ministry expenses for the summer, you are not soliciting funds but building partnerships.
financial support to make sundaes?
After much deliberation and some experience, we have come to find $1,000 as an appropriate goal.  Of course, any money raised over $1,000 would certainly go to good use by the intern and ministry, as the intern will have both the luxury and the responsibility of creating and maintaining his/her own budget (i.e. the more you raise, the more you will have at your discretion for ministry use).  The $1,000 can most simply be broken down like this:  $450 for room, board, and utilities (quite reasonable for three months in Chicago); $350 for ministry usage (e.g. crafts, taking a small group out for pizza, copies costs largely shaped by your ministry); $200 for personal usage (gas if you bring a car, eating out, hair care, free time activities).  Here is a snapshot picture of a possible breakdown of expenses, compiled from years past and estimated inflations - but remember that your budget will reflect your unique ministry and your creativity; this is not a guideline, but a sample.
