What is Pagan_Outlook about? So to explain what we are and are not about, we'll have to take a step back in time.
For a time back in the mid 1990's I co-hosted a pagan radio show on WAIF 88.3 which is a public radio station in Cincinnati. The show was a rather successful one with a run time of 4 years, until the name was changed to "Blessed Be Cincinnati", which was a catch phrase I used my first night on P_O. The radio show was set up to discuss topics of the modern day neopagan movement. The range of discussion was from people speaking of their various paths, the proper use of tools and other magickal items, book and music reviews from various pagan authors and musicians. You name it, it was discussed there. Even things of a political nature was prime topics because it affected our daily lives here in this incarnation.
On the morning of January 25th, 2001, I was online and had it that I wanted to start a group that was like no other, and what I had shared in on the radio show, sounded like what I wanted to achieve with the list. I know that many people thought then, and some do to this day, that I started this group out of a need to feed my own ego. This is far from the case. If this was ego driven, I don't think there would be many people on this list, especially from the early days. You see, Pagan_Outlook isn't just about me. It's not just about one person, it's about the whole. Everyone makes this list what it is. I do, the moderators do, the webmasters do and the most important person of all is YOU! You, the person who took the initiative to make a choice, a choice to join the Pagan_Outlook family.
Let us look at the Mission statement located on our website:

This statement was written in the infant stages of the group, and as simple as it may sound, it is more than what it actually suggests. As does the name "Pagan_Outlook" itself. Let me explain. As many of you have seen, that has been around for any amount of time, I post things of various traditions and points of view.
One day I may post something on Satanism, and the next day post something containing the word "God" in it. Even though I do not believe in the deity Satan, nor do I believe in the Judea Christian God, there is wisdom to be learned from either. Just as there are teachings contained in everything. These teachings are in everything because Spirit is within everything.
When I see a post containing the word God, I merely replace it with Spirit. This is where the group name of Pagan_Outlook can possibly deceive some people. Even though it is a predominantly pagan list, it is a spiritual list, that has tolerance for all religions, creeds, races, sexual identities, etc etc...
Now underlying the universe we share, we all have our own individual universes, the life we live from day to day. The life we have lived up until this point in time. This affects us as well. So we post things that are going on in our lives, good/bad. People ask for energy to aid them through hard times, as well energy/prayers is asked for friends and family, co workers etc etc. We try to do positive things so we get positive in return. This is why we try to temper varying points of view by not attacking another member onlist. We can choose to disagree. That is a normal thing, but when stating the reasons we disagree, try to use knowledge and etiquette in doing so.
The ways of paganism brings forth many questions, and the realm of email groups, brings challenges within itself. One of the main challenges is how to make out the words of another without the benefit of eye contact, body language and tone of voice of the one who is speaking. Without these benefits, the words and meanings can be taken out of context. Something that is posted in jest could be taken as something serious. It is all in the eye of the person reading it and interpreting the information given. So I hope we can see where a problem lies within this.
The power of words is a remarkable thing. What they mean and how they are interpreted can be a very crucial thing. What could be meant in one way could cause very harmful effects. So we must be eloquent in our speaking on any public forum. I know this is a difficult thing to do, but it can be done. I have the hope that all of us can learn something from this.
When I created Pagan_Outlook, I was also trying to create a retreat (safe haven) for those who are tired of the constant "witch wars" going on, online and off. Again I would like to state that these are my ideas for the group and I only speak for myself. The moderators have their visions of what Pagan_Outlook is, and can be in the future, as I feel every member of this group should have.
We do not promote illegal activity, we never have and never will. But we do promote freedom of choice. Because every action we take on our respective paths is a choice.
We do not put up with flaming, but we do promote free speech, given it is done appropriately. As individuals living in our respective universes sharing a common universe we all see things differently and with those differences we all will have differing points of view, Speak Them!
How can we ever expect to understand one another without dialogue? It is an impossible task unless effort is put into it, and that effort has to be genuine and positive. This group has alot to offer, if it is given a chance. You just take what information is useful to you and discard the rest. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
There are alot of wonderful people here in this family, with alot of wisdom and valuable thoughts and insight.
