The key to treatment is providing the parents and children with right information about nutrition with the emphasis on nutrition instead of dieting can help a child lose weight. Koletzko et al. (2002) states that strict diets can have negative effects on the child, such as not meeting the nutritional requirement, and increasing the risks of possibly causing eating disorder. Following the Canada food guide for children, will allow the child to have adequate nutrition to meet their nurtitional requirements. Additionally, encouraging the child to be involved in more physical activity is another component for treatment.
