Advocacy is an intregal part of nursing and forms the foundation of the trust inherent in the nurse-client relationship. (RNABC 1998)
Introduction Advocacy was adopted by nursing to determine and ideal
for practice. The notion of advocacy gives weight to the
professionalization of nursing. Advocacy is intertwined
in the "art of nursing". How does the nurse interpret
the role of advocate into practice? The concept of advocacy
is borrowed from the legal profession. A nurse advocate
defends and promotes the rights of the patient, the rights
of the profession and the rights of personal issues. Advocacy
improves care for patients and improves the image of the nurse.

Nurses advocate in the public interest for causes that will promote
the health and well-being of society. Nurse advocates are entitled to
have clearly delineatd, responsive and fully supportive process within
their work environments that enables them to fulfill their advocacy
role. RNABC (1998)
