The mission of the pharmacy services in the Bureau of Prisons is to provide access for inmates to quality, necessary, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care consistent with community standards.

• Provide pharmaceutical care for Native Americans, federal inmates, and Coast Guard personnel.
• Expanding knowledge through biomedical, behavioral, and health services research leading to the prevention and treatment of disease.
• Improving the health care system, including development of innovations in health care.
• Assuring the safe and effective use of drugs and medical devices.
• Expanding national health resources.
• Responding to natural disasters, technological emergencies, and acts of terrorism.
• Shaping the health work force, medical knowledge, technology, and other resources toward the goal of better health.
