Press Club of Long Island scholarships� May 1 Deadline
The Press Club of Long Island, a chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, is seeking applicants for its annual college scholarships. The club awards up to three, $1,000 scholarships to students studying journalism at Long Island colleges and to Long Island students studying journalism at colleges elsewhere. Newsday generously contributes half the amount of each scholarship. One scholarship goes to a student studying print journalism, a second to a student studying electronic journalism and the third to a minority journalism student. Scholarships will be awarded at our annual Media Awards Dinner in June at the Woodbury Country Club, Woodbury, Long Island.
Applicants should submit three samples of their work � tear sheets or copies for print, standard VHS tapes for television and standard audio cassettes for radio � a letter of recommendation from their journalism professor, academic advisor or department chair, and a brief essay (no more than two pages, double spaced) outlining their goals in journalism.

New England Press Association Scholarships
Five $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year consisting of the George A. Speers Memorial Scholarship, The Benton Dryden Memorial Scholarship, and three NEPA Northeastern University Scholarships. To learn more about NEPA visit the organization's web site at www.nepa.org.
Will McDonough Scholarships
Several $1,000 stipends are awarded annually to co-op students who are working at broadcast stations.
Hellenic Chronicle Scholarship
A $5,000 award will be given to a junior journalism student of Greek heritage.
WCVB Boston Scholarship
An award is granted to a junior, senior or graduate minority student in broadcast journalism.
Overseas Press Club of New York Scholarship
A $1,000 award is conferred annually through national competition by the Overseas Press Club of New York, NY.
Jacqueline A. Kornish Memorial Scholarship
This award recognizes academic excellence, professional promise and a commitment to ethics in journalism.
Mary-Alice (King) Parsons Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to students who display professional promise and soundness of character, with preference given to women and minority students.
Kappa Tau Alpha
This award is given by the National Honor Society to those students in the top ten percent of their graduating class.
Outstanding Senior Award
This award is based on academic and co-op performance and faculty
recommendations.
Professional Promise Award
This award is presented by the Office of Alumni Relations to the student who shows initiative and excels in both academics and co-op.
Paul Keough Award
This $500 scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated a financial need and have shown a strong interest in environmental journalism.
James Ragsdale Memorial Award
This $500 scholarship is awarded to students who have shown a strong interest in First Amendment issues.
Peter Anderson Memorial Prize
This award recognizes academic excellence and commitment to journalism.
Paul E. Hirshson Byline Scholarship
This award recognizes academic excellence and concern for professional ethics.
Shell Oil/Golf Writers Association of America
This award recognizes professional commitment and academic excellence.
Advertising and Communications Scholarships
The Boston Idea Group has several scholarships available for juniors and seniors. Other selection criteria includes: students studying advertising, communications and all related majors, people of color, academic performance of B or higher, an essay, two recommendations, a resume and a demonstrated commitment to and interest in the advertising/communications industry.
