Device configuration file

You can use video controller devices and video frame buffer devices for recording. The video controller device controls the transport mechanism of videotape recorders (VTRs) and videodisk recorders. This may be an external device, or may be incorporated directly into the recorder.

The video frame buffer device converts a digital RGB image (typically generated by Alias|Wavefront software) into a video signal that is fed to a video recorder when recording, or vice versa when capturing individual frames of video. This device can be either external or internal to the recorder.

You must define all video controller and frame buffer devices you use in the device configuration file. Each device requires a custom definition because it is physically connected to your workstation depending on how your facility is set up. Many common types of both devices are supported by Alias|Wavefront software, but only as described in this booklet.

Tip: The device configuration file allows great flexibility in setting up your video recording environment. Alias|Wavefront has tested common configurations of video recording devices; however, your configuration may be unique. If you encounter any problems, please contact your Alias|Wavefront Assist representative.
