Highways
Hwy 69 is an important highway that is part of the link between the GTA and Sudbury, and also links Sudbury with Parry Sound and Muskoka. The highway runs from Hwy 400 near Foot's Bay north to Hwy 17 south of Sudbury. Between its southern terminus and Parry Sound, part of Hwy 69 is a signed alternate route to Hwy 400, while the rest of it runs concurrently with Hwy 400.

More to See
Prior to 1976, Highway 69 ran south from MacTier towards Highway 12 via Gravenhurst and a multiplex with Highway 11. That year, Highway 69's routing was changed to take over Highway 103 (this is now part of Highway 400), and the old Highway 69 became Highway 169. At present there is a bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railway just north of Bala on Highway 169, and immediately to the east is this old roadway that leads down to the railway tracks. This is apparently an old alignment of Highway 69 looking northbound towards the old at-grade railway crossing, that was bypassed when the bridge was built. Photo taken 14 July 2004.
This is the actual site of the former at-grade railway crossing on the old Highway 69 at the Canadian Pacific Railway, north of Bala. The old alignment and railway crossing is still used as a snowmobile trail in the winter months, hence the tiny stop sign at the crossing. Photo taken 14 July 2004.
This shot is looking southbound along the old Highway 69 towards the at-grade rail crossing at the C.P.R. north of Bala. The former highway alignment north of the C.P.R. is used today as a driveway for a private cottage property, in addition to the snowmobile trail. Photo taken 14 July 2004.
This shot is looking northbound along the old Highway 69 from the at-grade rail crossing at the C.P.R. north of Bala, towards the present alignment of Highway 169. The portion of the old highway alignment immediately north of the C.P.R. is still paved to this day, as evident in the photo. Photo taken 14 July 2004.
Old meets new: At left is the apparent former alignment of Highway 69 snaking through the bush towards the at-grade crossing with the C.P.R. At right is the present alignment of Highway 169 that passes over the C.P.R. via a bridge. Photo taken 14 July 2004.
