I am going to get lynched for this, but I like this album. There goes MY indie credibility (as if I had any before :P)!!! Right down the drain!!! You know what else? I like Avril Lavigne, too! Take THAT!!! Muahahahahaha! Speaking of Avril, does she remind anyone else of a cross between Jennifer and Anniston and Grace Slick (circa 1967)??? Not a bad combination. Heck, a pretty good combo if you ask me. But I bet she doesn't bang a gong and get it on with Jim Morrison like Grace did!!! But this is not an Avril Lavigne review. This is a John Mayer review. So, just who is John Mayer? He's a musician! From Georgia! Who plays a guitar and sings! Wow! Just like Jimmy Carter, except for the music part! I have just been informed that Jim Morrison is dead and not actually a cab driver in Newark. So much for Avril following in Grace Slick's bedroom (or backstage or whatever the case may be) footsteps.
Something tells me that John Mayer's music is quite a hit with the ladies. I say this because he seems to be more interested in emotions and being awestruck with a girl's beauty and all that jazz rather than wanting to stand up on top of an amp with a bare, hairy chest while bragging about his wild sexual conquests back at the hotel whose bedsheets he destroyed while roasting a live goat in them. He's got one of those smooth, nice guy voices. Nice guy seems to be the epitome of everything he stands for musically. The most ribald he gets is on Your Body Is A Wonderland, which, while being very obviously about doing the wild thing, does not at all come across as being smutty or dirty. He's just a nice guy with his nice, pretty girlfriend who likes walks on the beach, cuddling next to the fireplace, and other such actions not condoned by the Moral Majority. By the way, the aforementioned song just so happens to be my favorite on the whole cd, and also the biggest hit off of it if I recall correctly.
However, it's also probably the least typical one. The other big hit, No Such Thing, is more in keeping with the general style. I guess you could call it poppy folk-rock. Or folky pop-rock. Or rocky folk-pop. Whichever way you like it. The guitars are always well-played, but never loud or obnoxious. The lyrics are well-written and usually avoid banality, plus they have "universal appeal."
I have just been informed that the Moral Majority has placed Your Body Is A Wonderland on its list of songs to appear on an upcoming musical tribute to modern pop and rock by Jerry Falwell and His Famous Flames. The name of the teams at Liberty University (and yes, I have been accepted there and may go if they make me a good scholarship deal) is the Flames. The Flames at Jerry Falwell's school. The ironic humor there is present on multiple levels.
I hate to do like I do often and avoid song description and just make stylistic generalizations, but dangit, this is all the same style throughout, except for Your Body Is A Wonderland. You get nice, easy to take, easy to listen to (but not Easy Listening!) hooks and such from Jimmy Carter's cousin. Actually, it's Gerogia, so John Mayer would be both Jimmy Carter's cousin AND grandson at the same time! I have just been informed that there are no relations between John Mayer and Jimmy Carter.

THE FORMER IS A DOUBLE LIVE ALBUM . THE LATTER IS A FOLLOW UP TO ROOM. I STILL SAY JOHN MAYER NOT HAVE A GOOD VOICE BUT HE WON THE HEARTS OF GIRLS WHO ARE TIRED OF ALL THE SKANKS AND RAPPERS. SEE JOHN MAYER AT THE 9:30 CLUB WITH SWEET MICHLLE BRANCH! I LOVE THAT GIRL BETTER THAN THE COCKLICKING CRITICS.

I LOVED IT! THIS IS A GUY WHO CAN DRAW A CROWD (ESPECIALLY GIRLS) AND CAN PUT THE SONG OUT THERE WITH JUST A SNAP AT THE GUITAR STRINGS AND A MIC! HE IS A HOT GUY BUT NOT OUT THERE IF U GET MY DRIFT, HES LAYED BACK, EMOTHIONAL, AND SWEET, AND THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HIM. I HAVE TO SAY I ADMIRE HIM IN A WAY I NEVER DID TO ANYONE ELSE, LIK JOSH HARTNETT, SURE HES CUTE, BUT REALLY THATS ALL, I LIK SOMEONE THATS GONNA WORK FOR THAT AFFECTION AND DRAW THE CROUDS IN CAUSE OF HIS TALENT NOT LOOKS (NOT SAYING JM DONT HAVE ANY). john mayer is the greatest. His lyrics are amazing, and people can totaly relate. His live performances are crazy awesome. I just saw him, and i couldnt believe how much talent he had at playing guitare. Not to mention his voice is to die for...!! ahh im in love.
